Prince vs. Stevie Wonder

The eclectic, inventive geniuses of the '80s and '70s respectively. I know this has been done many times before and this is PRINCE.org, but 1) It's been a while, and 2) The Non-Prince forum is bound to be a little less biased.

So, in this musical debate, your vote can go either way: Who you simply prefer, or who you personally believe is the superior artist. If you like, you can cast a vote under BOTH categories.

I think it's Stevie all the way for me. I'm still much more familiar with P's music, but just after hearing the "Innervisions" album (which, I swear, sounds like an equivalent to God.. it's THAT marvelous razz ) and a good deal of "Songs In The Key Of Life", I'm leaning more towards His Royal Master Of Melody. There's not only this brilliance, but this RICHNESS and pure class to his music that I find not as abundant in P's music, but again, I'm going to let myself become more familiar with him before REALLY comparing the two.

I absolutely LOVE Stevie....but NO ONE can touch Prince for his versatility. Stevie can't play a lead guitar.....can he?

He really might. I wouldn't be surprised. But I'm not a fan of recent Stevie. I don't think he's mad about stuff anymore. That's part of the problem. The last Stevie song I really liked was Misrepresented People, which is dope as hell and racially charged.

Both geniuses but I'd have to give the edge to P because he has more instruments under his belt, more overall output over his career, and more sustained relevance.

Stevie all the way. His seventies stuff was/is just unbelievable. So far ahead of his time. 'Innervisions' and 'Songs In The Key Of Life' are must have albums.

'At The Close Of A Century' is a mainstay on my ipod.

Oh, and 'A Time 2 Love' is a far superior album to 3121 too. wink

I think if you take either one of their top 50 songs and compare them to any artist at any time, they both would be standing tall at the end.

I find it interesting that a lot of my Fav prince stuff has never even been officially released.

Lol, its funny did i just see Prince is better than Stevie because he can play lead guitar!!!! However, when will we stop cpmparing these two, I actually think the only thing they have in common is that they are two overall great musicians! They are two different men, who have walked to different paths. Its obvious that both men have the respect of everyone on thisforum because we are always comparing these 2 too each other. I just love the fact that i share the world with two talented individuals. much love and respect

Don't know who is a superior artist, but I prefer Prince. I'm just not a fan of Stevie Wonder. I actually sold back 'Songs in the Key of Life' and 'Ultimate Stevie Wonder'. I tried to get into it, but '70s R&B just isn't my cup of tea.

Not becuase of the lead, Prince can do things that Stevie can not. One of those happens to be shredding the lead guitar.

I always laught at these comparisons for this simple fact: No matter who you compare to Prince, 9 times out of 10, Prince can match what ever talent/skill set that person has, but they CANNOT match Prince's skill set. A simple example in this case, is that Prince can kick major ass on a guitar. Stevie cannot.

BTW, I once started a thread concerning Stevie VS. Prince in a battle of the keyboards.

And if THIS thread is about keyboards, then Stevie wins my vote!!!

But guitar, bass, & drums, Prince would take it!

Stevie always takes the drums on his live sets and if you check the credits of any album you'll see him credited on drums.

There's a long lost "jazz" from Stevie called THE JAZZ SOUL OF STEVIE WONDER and it's credited to EIVETS REDNOW.

Lessee if the img comes thru

ooops! That's the ALFIE album' JAZZ SOUL is from the LITTLE STEVIE WONDER period

I've seen Stevie in conert a few times and I have YET to see him take to the skins, so I don't know where you got that from unless you're overstating the word "always." But ok, cool, whatever, I'm STILL willing to bet the farm that P is more skilled on the skins than Stevie.

Yeah, I wanted to laugh out loud on that one when I read it too, as if the harmonica is some amazing instrument that only few have conquered. I'm not slighting Stevie, but to use the harmonica as an example of one of his many instruments is almost a slap in his face and HUGE victory in favor of Prince.
