What's wrong with MOTOWN?

Think of all the fantastic catalogue Motown have
& yet they only release greatest hits cd after greatest hits.
All with the same songs.Just a tip of the iceberg of what
they released on LP.
For example I'd really love to have all the original Willie Hutch,
The Undisputed truth & the Rose Royce albums remastered.
I wonder why they never release more original albums.

PREACH!!! lol

I have been complaining about Motown for YEARS.They have one of the most impressive soul music catalogs ever, and they don't know what to do with it! They keep on re-packaging and re-selling the same compilations over and over and over and over.WHY NOT REMASTER THE ACTUAL ALBUMS??.The Commodores created some of the most amazing funk/soul albums in the 70s,yet most of these albums aren't even on CD! Most of Rick James' classic albums are nowhere to be found on CD.Where are the Dazz Band albums? I'm tired of numerous compilations containing the same songs that I already have.

nod By now,'Throwin Down' should be a 2-CD Deluxe Edition. These days,if you go to the record store looking for Rick James CDs,the only thing you're gonna find is 'Street Songs' and about a dozen "hits" compilations, all containing the same songs. There's no excuse for the way they are neglecting this music!

One Kool place is Hip-O-Select http://www.hip-oselect.co...motown.asp. The Motown section offers Motown CDs that aren't available anywhere else, including some previously unreleased stuff from the Motown vaults... Hopefully they'll start releasing more of their mid- to late 70's--early 80's catalog...

Are these remastered CDs? I have a 'Come Get It' CD,but it was printed in the 80s and the sound quality isn't very good.

Because each replacement after Gordy stepped down has failed to do so. Sans Kedar Massenberg, the other people haven't been able to keep the fire goin' at Motown. Lest we forget the horrendous job that Andre Harrell did about 10 years back when he was heloming the Motown sound? Damn shame. His first 2 orders of business: Send out 5,000 Xmas cards with him sitting on a throne, piss off Boys 2 Men by releasing a Best Of album that they didn't authorize, and then having JUST ONE RELEASE in 3 quarters - some wack female group that flopped like crazy.

Needless to say his ass got the boot rather quickly and is now Puffy's ho which is funny all to its own because it was the other way around back when Puff and Dre were at Uptpwn and Dre was head of uptown and Puffy was Dre's ho.

Most likely. This version of Come Get It was released on January 25, 2005 and the Collectables Wonderful was released on February 28, 2006

Motown ain't worrying me none by dragging their feet. I've got all my old vinyl and it's in perfect condition. lol However, I would like some more "Deluxe Editions" with rare 12 Inches or live stuff such as Rick James' "Street Songs", Diana Ross's "Diana", or the live bonus tracks on Teena Marie's "It Must Be Magic".

I was just in the car the other day thinking the same thing. It's crazy, all the stuff that can be remastered. All the stuff that's out of print.

Motown has so many unreleased albums buried in their vaults,it's just amazing:

***Marvin Gaye's unreleased 1979 'Love Man' album (described as a funky party album)

***The third album by the Mary Jane Girls, titled 'Conversation' and produced by Rick James in 1986

***that Michael Jackson solo album you mentioned, produced by Stevie Wonder and recorded in 1973.The planned first single was a song called "Buttercup".

A previously unreleased jazz album by Diana Ross, titled 'Blue' and recorded in 1973,is finally being released. But what about all the other stuff in the vaults??

Motown simply doesn't care. Whoever's in charge now doesn't realize and probably doesn't even know (or care) what's in the vaults. They really dropped the ball on the Rick James stuff after his passing. They're simply living off the past and staying "safe" with what they know will sell.

They also may not want to go thru the legal stuff with the estates of Marvin and Rick to get the OK to release the vault stuff too.

Hip-O Select is at least trying. But I would figure unreleased stuff may be tied up in some sort of legal limbo

If they were produced while they were under contract with Motown then they don't have to get permission.

"Moonchild" was on the "Glow" album a year earlier.
