Z Cult Question; Marvin Gaye or Al Green?

I ran a thread awhile back regarding perhaps the 2 most beloved black bands of all time, Parliament/Funkadelic and E,W, & F. It recieved great, passionate posts too. Folks on here are serious about who they prefer and ya'll can tell me the reasons why too. Which is very cool. So, in a similar fashion, I picked 2 more great and again, perhaps the 2 most beloved singers of all time, Marvin and Al. Again, I haven't met a person who didn't dig either one, but I have also heard a many conversation about whi is the better of the two. I never bothered with that part because that's like saying who was better; Magic or Jordan. So, I ask u fellow orgers who don't have a problem with posting, who is YOUR fave between these two great, great vocalists? Marvin or Al?

I dig Al but Marvin was the man. Got to give it up baby.....

Ohh and to answer your other q, Jordan was the best to EVER play in the NBA, but Magic is the man off the court....now back to regularly scheduled channel.

Marvin for the tunes and history.
The Reverend for the vibe.

Jordan may be the best individual to play in the league but inadvertently turned the NBA into the hot (one on one) mess it is today.
The best team player ever was Bill Russell hands down.
~ 11 Championships in 13 seasons
~ 5 time MVP
~ 12 time All-Star
~ 22.5 Rebounds per game (lifetime avg)
~ 12 consecutive seasons of 1000 or more Rebounds
~ There'd be another stat here if they were accurately tracking Blocked Shots in his era.

We will now, once again, return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hahaha! Yes sir, I can dig it. But uh, wow, as much as I love Jordan's skill, MY all-time fave player on the court is definately Magic.

Sorry. Didn't mean to go into hijack mode but that question gets to me.

Wilt was a stellar individual talent.
But the bottom line to me, since basketball is a team game (use to be anyway), is how many NBA championships have you won?

Aud, now u KNOW there's no formalities between us, player. Besides, I was the one who put it out there with Magic and MJ. I dug the Russell info, myself.

Don't get me started on the 60's celtics. No free agency, very few playoff games, .....I dig Russ but Jordan was off the chain. How many hall of fame players did Jordan play with? .....Exactly.

When I feel like Al, Marvin won't do. When I feel like Marvin, usually Al won't do but sometimes he does. So I would have to go with Al...for mileage.

Jordan is the Jimi of BBall. He's unreal today...imagine transporting back into one of those classic Lakers game. Someone (Probably Magic) would have called NASA.

Al Green. There is no Marvin Gaye song that makes feel like For The Good Times or How Can You Mend A Broken Heart.

Damn. My Saturday morning memories with Al and Marvin are some of the greatest times of my life. Mom would put these records on while cleaning the house. I love both of them, but I'm going with Marvin. While Rev. Al stopped making secular LP's, Marvin kept evolving and trying new stuff along the way.

Some of my earliest childhood memories involve Marvin and Al.I remember my mother playing the Al Green song "Tired Of Being Alone" over and over and over and over...I was a little kid,but even I knew all the words, lol.Back in the early 70s,that song was a favorite in our household.

In 1974,I remember going with my mother to the record store to buy Marvin's Let's Get It On album. That record means so much to me.

Marvin Gaye. Sometimes, Al's song all sound the same to me, don't get me wrong Al can throw down to but when I hear song like "distance lover", "Let's get it on" "If I should die tonight" and my favorite "Mercy Mercy Me" it just does'nt get any better.

Agreed. Al's grooves were sick. Marvin had the kind of voice anyone would want, and and an incredible ear for harmony.
