I listened to the 12" Mix only yesterday. Got it on my iPod now as a part of an excellent 80's 12" Compilation Series

I also bought the album back in the day only for that song. It was still the time of LPs not CDs smile

I never would have guessed that, but i hear of so many artists that are nearly forgotten, that still get a lot of attention in Japan.

I FAITHFULLY buy all of their stuff still...

... my last acquisition was their 1960's inspired "SOMEWHERE DEEP IN THE NIGHT" released back in 2001...

very mod, james bond-"avenger"-ish, with a hint of 60's blue eyed-soul thrown in...I love these guys...

"Breakout" I'm not too fond of, however, "Sweet Surrender" is another matter.
That is the jam. Have the 12". I once had a girlfriend who was NUTS about Swing Out Sister. She is the only person other than myself, until I saw this thread, that I thought even knew this band existed.

heart this tune, it's so catchy. The horns remind me a bit of Gloria Estefan, for some reason.

Breakout Lyrics
Swing Out Sister
Buy this CD | Print Lyrics

When explanations make no sense
When ev'ry answer's wrong
You're fighting with lost confidence
All expectations gone
The time has come to make or break
Move on, don't hesitate
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

When situations never change
Tomorrow looks unsure
Don't leave your destiny to chance
What are you waiting for
The time has come to make or break
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

Some people stop at nothing
If you're searching for something
Lay down the law
Shout out for more
Break out and shout
Day in day out
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

Don't stop to ask
Now you've found a break to make at last
You've got to find a way
Say what you want to say
Break out

It is one of those songs that just makes you feel good. It's a damn shame they don't make 'em like that anymore.

There are a few songs that can brighten up any day, when you hear them on the radio while getting ready for school or work,
you can`t help but feel good and positive about everything.

"Breakout"
"Rhythm of the night" (DeBarge)
"Walking on sunshine" (Katrina and the waves)
"Manic monday" (The Bangles)
"Whoops now" (Janet Jackson)

woot!
