There is no doubt in my mind that Pretenders deserve their Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction. Chrissie Hynde is one of the all-time greats. They have too many good songs to choose one, but… If I did.. it would be “Back on the Chain Gang”, for both the performance and the lyrics.

Listen to the mood of the song shift into darkness at the 2.05 mark. “The powers that be… that force us to live like we do. Bring me to my knees when I see what they’ve done to you.”

And could these lines be the best ever to start a song:
“I found a picture of you..... What hijacked my world at night to a place in the past we’ve been cast out of?”

The feeling in this track is amazing; it’s a beautiful sad song.
