The only disagreements I have is Ciara. And as much as I love me some Janet, her voice can be questionable at times. Ciara? Please.

You can't possibly be serious?? I definitely agree that Whitney is one of the best singers ever, but the other 4 on your list are no where near the best. In fact, I wouldn't put Madonna, Janet or Ciara on any list of good singers.

Surely you are joking...right?!? Madonna the best female singer of all time? Hell naw! She might be a good dancer and a businesswoman but she ain't the best female vocalist ever... not even close.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I would say depending on what your looking at ? if your talking about pure vocalist I would say

1) Whitney
2) Mariah
3) Christina
4) Arthea
5) Patti

but Madonna and Janet are very talented they can carry a tune and dance so I say their moreof entertainers. Ciara shouldn't even be mentioned neutral

Having lots of hits has nothing to do with talent. Check the current pop charts and you'll see what I'm talking about. Secondly, I don't "hate" Madonna, and I don't even remember her turning down P's project. My girlfriend somewhat digs Madonna and I'm cool with that. I respect Madonna to some degree but all I'm saying is that her vocals are not that great.

ok, well when i think of the top 5 female vocalist of all time, I'm not thinking about popularity, sales, or the best entertainer. I'm thinking about pure vocal abilty. So, that being the criteria. Here R the five (in no particluar order) that cum 2 mind.

1. Whitney Houston
2. Glady's Knight
3. Billie Holiday
4. Mariah Carey
5. Aretha Franklin

Honorable Mentions: Denice (Neicy) Williams - 5 octive range, Anita Baker - beautiful medium tenor voice with a more blusey appeal, Jennifer Holiday - just powerful as all outdoors, Stephanie Mills - amazing soulful voice, U feel it when she sings, so underrated & damn near forgotten.

biggrin

madonna's a good dancer/performer and a passable pop lyricist, and she has a great personality for a celebrity...but she's a rotten singer. let's face facts. if she sounds good on CD, that's a little thing called PRODUCTION.

i'm sorry...if madonna truly is as good a singer as aretha, tina, billie, annie, etc. - then i don't know what good singing is, and i'll be happy to admit it.
