Yes I still care. I still buy them and they had good articles on Eminem and Ozzy lately. People should still subscribe to them or pick them up at the newsstand.

I quit Rolling Stone back in '88. They're no better than pop radio. They miss A LOT == prob has 2 do with who pays the bills. Next time u get a chance, check out the big bookstores and look at their magazine racks. Here's a few to choose from:

Desktop Music, MC2 (Music Computers Culture), Recording: The Magazine for the Recording Musician, Urb: Future Music Culture, XLR8R (Accelerating Music and Culture), MixMag, Computer Music, Muzik, Electronic Musician, EQ Mag, Home Recording: Make the Most of Your Music, Future Music, and Mixer Mag.

And that's just off the top of my head. There's many more to choose from == all WAY better than Rolling Stone.

...have u had ur + sign 2day?

What he/she said.

Rolling Stone has become the antithesis of what it used to be about years ago.

Vibe is too full of ads and caters to the hip hop crowd above all else.

I will flip through a Rolling Stone while standing at a magazine rack, but I've never had a subscription.

Even though other publications have more influence than Rolling Stone these days, it is still an accomplishment to get the cover.

Prince was on the cover of Rolling Stone several times in the 80s, but he hasn't gotten the cover of Rolling Stone in at least 12 years.

When it comes to musical diversity, subject matter, and depth of writing MOJO is THE MUSIC MAGAZINE.

I used to live on bread, water and Rolling Stone in the eighties..and even then they were less musically relevant than they were in the seventies...but they really fell off in the ninities. Never be the same again. RS was my bible back then and theyre all in the garage sleeping.

Vibe is nothing BUT ads it seems...plus they had nerve to call Meshells' Bitter the record of the year and still have yet to put her on the cover.

Yeah, I remember that issue. I might even still have it, can't remember. And they've NEVER put Meshell on the cover. Regardless of sales, she's just too important an artist to never have been given a cover by a magazine like Vibe. That's one reason I don't really take it that seriously. They'd rather put Puffy on the cover. Hey, I know it ultimately comes down to who sells the most, but they put big selling performers on the cover all the time, they can put Meshell on the cover 1 month out of 12.

I agree...but I will give Vibe this: I bought Vibe back in 92-93 when they had Meshell on a whole page as an up and coming musician ready to explode etc.--it was titled "Madonnas Girl" on the cover since she was on her Maverick label. If it wasnt for that issue I may have slept on Meshell all those years ago...it had a weird blurred long fingernail photo of Meshell in it too..so I was ready for her when her album finally hit. Thanks for that Vibe...now finish the freakin job you started!

Actually it took me almost a year after her debut album to finally decide to buy it back in the Fall of 1994. One of the very few artist I've spent money on because of critical acclaim. And when I got it I couldn't believe I had slept on Plantation Lullabies so long, because I hadn't heard any of the material beforehand.

Rolling Stone turned into a fashion rag back in the 80's. if you wanted to know what kind of shoes your favorite performer wore, you read RS. if you wanted to know about the songs and the making of the album, you read Musician.

very rarely will i pick up a RS mag anymore. i know they'll do a cover on the Stones once the tour starts, so i'll get that one. come to think of it, that's probably one of the last RS mags i bought, when Jann Wenner interviewed Mick Jagger. they called it "Jagger Remembers," but if you read the article, it seems that Jagger forgot a lot of answers to the stuff Wenner asked him.

Thats why I said it not as relevant as it was in the seventies. Musician-..Rocks Two Headed Monster (Van Halen), A Prince Who Will Be King etc among most issues were read as well.

I have that issue...from after Voodoo Lounge...around 95-96. Hes wearing a leather coat on the cover face crop pic.

Blender is my music mag of choice. I nthe first Issue, they reviewed every Prince cd ever released.

In this months issue, they have him as one of the top 5 Shaggers of all time, as well as Sandra B. stating Purple Rain is on her top 5 list.

It goes monthly at the end of this month n the next issue is thier Music Movie Issue. They will count down the top 25 music movie moments ever. Don't beleive Prince will be on the cover tho, bet it will be Beyonce.

Thier covers shows Trend cuz the magazine is just starting but what is inside is far better then Vibe or RS.

NOW we're talking. Did you catch the issue of Mojo guest-edited by David Bowie?

Q's also a fun music magazine...I love British rock journalism...always very enthusiastic, funny, well-researched stuff...completely worth the extra two or three bucks I have to plunk down for an import mag here in the States.

Rolling Stone needs more T&A. Otherwise, it's just a music-leaning version of People.

Some of their non-music articles are quite good, though.

Rolling Stone's articles on certain social issues, especially those from around the globe that don't get much U.S. print space, are usually actually very good...anything pertaining to music, though, is horrid.

Peter Travis Cracks Me Up.He don't even Care what He says.He is the only one in that Magazine that doesn't care.I Applaud that Vibe.I still got the Article from the Early 90's when He said He felt Eobert Deniro's Film Career was on the Down Swing.

I never even flutter through Rolling Stone at the newstands anymore! The magazine is a pretty good example of what's wrong with the music business of today. They're putting everything on the same level of credentials and deal with the equal amount of superficiality. Have you noticed even Fricke is writing less and less to that whole... thing?

NME on the other hand has gotten pretty good over the course of the few last years. Considering what it was like in the 90's. The "Angst!" page is the best substitute for a MAD -magazine one can have at the public library at the very least.

I occasionally still read Rolling Stone, but I gotta admit,it's not as good as it used to be.I have a 2-year subscription to Vibe magazine, though.Keeps me up-to-date with what's going on in the hip-hop/R&B world.

I used to have a subscription to them in the 80's, but they gradually got worse. And the critics for Rolling Stone are among the hardest critics on this earth. Ther're very stingy with those four star ratings ***. A lot of times their *** four star albums are usually *** five star albums. Now they're horrible.

MUSICIAN was a very good mag that covered rock R&B and jazz.
VIBE really sucks. Too much fashion and hip-hop. I can't stand that mag.
MOJO is very good, but everything seems to be either retro or obscure
from an American prospective.

I think we need a new mag. Would YOU subscribe to one
oriented around funk and black bands (no solo singers or hip-hoppers!!).

I get Vibe out of Respect for Quincy Jones Mainly.but the Letters to the Editor&20 Questions are all that I truly Like.they do a Artist story from a Artist back in the day&give them the Smallest Report.I saw one on Earth,Wind&Fire&I was Pissed.I was Like to Me Maurice White should have 5 Pages easily IMHO.
