I have a question for you fans of other artist. I've noticed that every time Prince releases a new project, critics always want to compare the new one to Purple Rain or something else that Prince released 20 years ago. Do other artist that have been around for along time get these same types of comments?

IMHO, comparing a new project to something 20 years ago is assine. There is NO relationship. No one is the same today as they were 20 years ago. We don't even "hear" the music the same as we did 20 years ago. Perspectives and life experiences have changed us all.

Why compare at all? Either you like this project and it sounds good or you don't. Making comments like "it's not ground breaking' or "its not Purple rain" is just plain dumb.

What about the other artist? How are they treated?

damn near any artist that has had a solid, long-standing career and is regarded as a "legend" gets the same exact treatment. this shit is not new in the slightest.

I don't know how someone could not know about any "media attention" another artist gets.
