when good groups go POOF! Must have been the radio that reminded me of the song "We Gonna Take U Back: Don't Leave Me" by Blackstreet
Good song, solid singing, nice lil beat... They were a good group - wtf happened? Wasn't there some lead singer drama or something? I didn't get it, I was mad enough when Guy called it quits - Blackstreet was no substitute BUT they were a nice accent on radio @ the time & Teddy was still solid. Anyway, what group went POOF for you?

Buckcherry. They were touted as the next big thing. Their debut was
great, they had a decent hit single with lit up, it goes "I love cocaine, i love cocaine'. Evidently they did as they split up 4 various reasons. http://www.myspace.com/craigssoapbox

But the next one was horrible--Timebomb. They actually have a new single on Itunes, but I don't know if it's all the original members.

There are some bad bands mentioned in this thread:
Buckcherry was hardly a good band gone poof; the tunes on the first album are nothing but derivative AC/DC & G N'R drivel, which in turn, leads to more derivative drivel. "Lit Up" may have been a catchy tune but damn, that was the only thing on that album that was worth listening to. Buckcherry was hardly a great debut and hardly original. And Deee-lite and Lucy Pearl do not belong in this thread. Rockwell? Yes. Lucy Pearl and Deee-Lite? No. Off the top of my head, I wish Camp Lo had pumped out at least one or two more albums.

It made me want to wear long-sleeved spandex unitards with loud patterns and platform shoes but my parents wouldn't let me. they also weren't too thrilled about me watching MTV. I loved these guys and even have world clique. it's sad that they are no longer.

Deee-Lite brought some really classic funk musicians back into the mainstream and they also brought FUNK-based dance music into a time that was dominated by crap like C+C Music Factory and Milli Vanilli (sorry, SexOfIt). All three core members of the group had talent and they knew where their style was coming from, and they also collaborated with some of the most creative hip-hop groups of the time, like Arrested Development, Q-Tip, and Michael Franti. They were political and fun at the same time. And dammit all, Kier Kirby could SING. So yeah. You may not like Deee-Lite, but they belong on this list. The pop music world would be a little bit better off if they were still a part of it.

Yeah, DL had some great funk sensibilities. But I'm not so sure that you're exaggerating their significance a bit. I'll have to check my books and stuff, but I don't think DL was the only band in dance music that had a funk foundation and was charting. All three core members of the group had talent and they knew where their style was coming from, and they also collaborated with some of the most creative hip-hop groups of the time, like Arrested Development, Q-Tip, and Michael Franti. Yeah, the musicianship on the first album is actually pretty tight. Kirby had some pipes, so I agree with that. And yeah, DL worked with some creative hip hop groups during the time. I still don't find that enough for me to consider DL a good band. Speaking of C+C, I think Marsha Wash as a vocalist, blows Kirby out the water. And David Coles was one of the most talented producers during the 90s. I'm not so sure you can call their music "crap." So yeah. You may not like Deee-Lite, but they belong on this list. The pop music world would be a little bit better off if they were still a part of it.
I just flat out disagree with the thought of DL being a good band. That last statement only means that you were in those clubs during the 90s shaking your ass to "Groove Is In The Heart!" [Edited 3/19/06 14:54pm]
