um.. Pet Shop Boys, Jimmy Somerville,, Erasure, all have gotten into the same sex lyric game. And Rufus is bout as Open as a person can be, hes never hid behind any sort of vagueness.

Unless youre looking for a "Justin Timberlake" type of Pop music sound and look, which i think is going to end up being more of a "tool" than an artist.

Its out there, Its always been out there...you just have to look for it.

Hell, the under the radar makes it more fun sometimes.

The acts you mention aren't unknown, but I wouldn't really consider any of them mainstream, either.

I agree though -under the rader can be more fun. I get a kick out of artists like Prince, who, despite his numerous songs praising the glories of pussy, ultimately still leaves the question of what he is open to interpretation. People don't just question him because he wears a spot of eyeliner, ya know.

The groups i mentioned are hugely popular, well maybe no jimmy anymore but Andy Bell and Neil Tennant are both out.as kd and melissa

Just cause the usa doesnt love a group doesnt mean they arent popular.

Whether or not an act becomes mainstream is all in the marketing. So perhaps more queer acts aren't mainstream because they choose not be. Being mainstream isn't exactly a marker of artistic quality or integrity these days. Still, it would be nice if the "big" out gay stars weren't so sexless and safe.
