Of all the legends who are still making music today, who do you think has dropped off the least?

I read all the time that folk lament the fact that their favorite band, singer etc...of yester-year is still recording, but cannot recapture the glory of their hey-day.

Well I was wondering what you all felt about those artists who are still releasing material waaaay after they started up but who in your opinion have fallen off the least in terms of quality and who is still releasing good stuff, albeit maybe not on par with their Legacy hits and who is, therefore, not wrecking their reputation.

Here are a few that I came up with:

Prince
Stevie Wonder
Earth, Wind and Fire
P-Funk
Isley Brothers
Michael Jackson
Madonna

Feel free to add to the list.

I'm gonna add U2 to the list, as they're experiencing new career highs 26 years after their first album.

latter day boy george is far superior to hey-day boy george.

same with cyndi lauper.

and madonna.

----

prince has never been able to get close to his 80s stuff once the decade was over, imho.

and early michael jackson is much better to me than latter day, although i like very little of his stuff, period.

Jeff Beck. He's only gotten better through the years, certainly one of the true masters of the guitar.

I don't really like Stevie lately. Darryl Coley's still 100% amazing, though.

I love U2 and wish them the best, but they're running on fumes now IMO. The current hit 'Original of the Species' is about as rehashed as it can get.

But I hope they keep pluggin'

I'd have to co-sign on U2.

I can't immediately think of any other bands who've been around that long that don't, on some level, come off as old guys trying to keep up with the young guys.

I don't know about Michael, but I think Madonna is actually making her best music these days.I enjoy her recent work much, much more than the old stuff.

You are right... Heathen is great. "I took a trip on a Gemini Spacecraft" and especially "5.15 The Angles Have Gone" sound great to me.

Reality seems a bit weaker to me.

I liked Hours a lot when it came out, and I like it still, - at that time I was new to Bowie, and I think I had bought his Low album (my favourite album maybe of all time) one or two days before Hours.

Me too. I'm not at all a fan of her old songs, but am a big fan of new stuff. biggrin It took quite a while for me to understand that her music had improved as much as it has.
