Brand New Heavies Somehow, I know not of this group's music. All I've heard is one non-album remix over a DJ Premier beat. That's pointless because they're a band in their own right.
I have seen Supa posting about them the most often (over a span of years) and I just assumed ahh I would figure them out sooner or later. Well, I saw a bunch of their CDs used the other day and I didn't know where to start! I know they've gone through some line-up changes. I imagine their sound changed over time as well. What's the skinny on Brand New Heavies?

I just came If you only ever get one album, it has to be "Brother Sister" Their first album is really great too but Brother Sister is their zenith. The songwriting is so strong. N'Dea is the gas to the bands engine. I have seen people praise her replacement because they charge N'Dea was too over the top. But listen to her sing and you will see there is nothing over the top about her. She is a natural talent, she breathes song and her leaving this band was devastating for me. For me, Brother Sister has a redemptive quality to it. This album came out at a time in my life when I was very very low. The music here took me higher and I can always count on it to do that to this day. If you enjoy this album I would also suggest getting N'Dea Davenport's solo CD. It's self titled. Some amazing songs on that album. I would definitely recommend Shelter as well. Saida Garrett replaced N'Dea and she is definitely not the same caliber as her and at first I did not give this album a chance but I have recently done so with a great surprise. There is some very strong songwriting here and Saida's voice is actually very nice and not as bad as I had remembered. I guess when you follow in the shoes of someone like N'Dea, disappointment is expected. I never got the album after Shelter so I cannot suggest it and their latest "All about the funk" is fun. More of a pop album than their usual Acid Jazz vibe but I'm really diggin some of these songs. Also, you need to check out "Excursions: Remixes and rare grooves". That album is spectacular! There are remixes of album cuts and for sake of a better word, outtakes or b-sides. Among Heavy fans, this is most adored. I will always support this band no matter who is fronting it. They have given me so much joy in my musical journey. I would buy an album of farts if they put it out. Enjoy your journey my friend 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

NEV-AH STOP NE-VAH GIVIN UP!!! :CHILLS:!!!!! That song is truly amazing. This is off the first album and you must get that one as well. Let's take a ride in the sky, baby you and I. Take a ride in the Sky tonight..... Ride in the Sky is the title and inspiration for one of my mixes N'Dea's "Bullshittin" is the title and part of another mix. "Placement for the Baby" is the centerpoint of another mix, and I will send you that mix Cee and muse about the song and what it means to me. I cried when N'Dea left this band but thankfully they put out enough material, between the first and second album and remix and heavy rhyme album and singles, that I am still enjoyin the heavy trip 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

NEV-AH STOP NE-VAH GIVIN UP!!! :CHILLS:!!!!! That song is truly amazing. This is off the first album and you must get that one as well. Never Stop was actually on the 2nd version of the 1st album, it did not appear on the 1st album at all. The 1st was released on the Acid Jazz label 2 years earlier and it was more of an instrumental recording with diferent arrangements, 'Got to give' was also originally released as a 12' only as far back '88 was a much slower and funkier version, a very hard 12' to find which was re-released on the 'Original flava' lp Title list for 1st lp: 1. BNH 2.Gimme one of those 3.Dream come true 4.Put the funk back in it 5.People get ready 6.Ride in the sky 7.Sphynx 8.Stay this way 9.Shake down BNH were part of the West London acid jazz movement from Ealing which spawned many bands including Jamiroquai, the Young Disciples whose 'Road to freedom ' album is a must have and the very talented percussionist Max Beesley who is now a rising actor in the U.K. This was a cool time to be in London and I saw them all a few times, the band was always flawless and tight! I have to agree with you as 'Brother Sister' is their best to date, I have to say that as a girl I used to know co-wrote 'Spend some time'. Check this bio http://www.webpro.se/bnh/bio.htm for more of an insight and this http://www.xs4all.nl/~wdr...index.html for the latest unofficial news. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a complete discograprhy on the net so I'll see what I'll try to compile some stuff from my collection another time (if I have'nt sold it yet) P.S N'dea is back
