I think it has a good beat, and I think there is a place for everything.
A song like this might be fine in a night club, but I don't think it should really be shown and heard on daytime T.V. and radio. The young lady in the video is very attractive, but I wonder how she will feel about a song like this in about 10 years. Especially if it's her only hit. If I've learned nothing else it's that anything you do is part of you forever. "Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above!"

I work as a DJ in a friggin' strip club and I think the song is rude. I played it once on a Saturday night to see what kind of reaction it got. You could actually see ppl flinch when the chick started throwing out those crass and classless lyrics. Before ppl start calling me a sexist, I have to admit that I love to play Lil Kim's 'How Many Licks' and Mercedes 'I can Tell'... It's not the fact that a woman is singing about sex, it is the fact that it is vulgar and not the least bit sensual or even playfully erotic. Straight Ghetto/Truckstop crap if you ask me. Love and lust, they both have 4 letters...

On the one hand, I think women have long been denied the right to their sexuality. We're supposed to be these sweet, nice girls who are only sexual when men want us. In this song, Khia's very proud of her sexuality and demands her own sexual satisfaction--it's not the typical "let me please my man with my body/skills" song. She's in charge of her sexual pleasure, saying "this is what I want and this is how I want you to do it". Secondly, she's not the ideal physical beauty, which I like. She looks "normal", with a regular body, not some Tyra Banks/Halle Berry thing going on. However, like you said, I really don't like the continued stress on "woman as sex object" that the song and video are all about. To me, sexuality is hotter when it's not done crudely, when it's expressed with taste. I understand...I'm glad women are no longer sexually suppressed. But now they're being used! You have to be a certain age to purchase porno, atleat in most places. This video along with other images are being made available on National TV. All of the images on television that show women in these uncompromising positions, is surely going to make it MORE difficult to me as a Father to teach my son and students, to treat women equally and with respect. Blue "don't play me" Well, women are still being used sexually, there really isn't much difference these days about that. Women think sex gives them power with men, and since men will pay for sex (or the promise of it), women shake their asses. Women always have been and still are primarily valued for how they look. Many times on the Org, I'll try to draw attention to the fact that whenever a female musician is brought up, most of the talk on the part of both male and female Orgersis about how she looks. Not about her voice, her lyrics, her music--her face and body get most attention. It's the same way about women in non-music careers as well, the focus with her male coworkers isn't usually on what a good job she does at her work, it's on how "fuckable" she is. I really would like to see more male artists getting shit from other men for the things they sing about women and sex, that's where it starts. If men could appreciate women as more than sex objects, women would start respecting themselves a little more. It should be the other way around--women respecting themselves without the approval of men--and for many women, our parents did a good job instilling a sense of self-respect, but it would help 100X more if men could do it too. [This message was edited Sat Jul 13 13:40:53 PDT 2002 by AnotherLoverHoleinYoHead] Prince was one of the MTV generation pioneers of presenting women as capable musicians and as sex objects. On the one hand, he had Wendy and Lisa in his band. On the other hand, he had someone like Apollonia singing a duet with him. He also created Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6, women of marginal singing or dancing talent, but they looked interesting in lingerie. He also is responsible for inflicting Carmen Electra on the public.

Our smile turned into a frown in record time.
The song and the girl (Khia) drive me absolutlely NUTS! I HATE IT! I'm so sick of the 'slutty-ho, ghetto, Thug misses' image of black women. As AnotherLover and a few others have mentioned and alluded to; this song is just downright crude. And there is a difference between crudeness and explicitness.
In my opinion Prince was explicit without being CRUDELY DETAILED in any of his songs as compared to this one. Some may consider "Let's Pretend We're Married" as having crude lyrics. In my opinion it's not. No, not because it's Prince. Because the part in LPWM lasts about what, 20 seconds altogether? Just going by the lyrics in the initial post by TheBluePrince about this particular song it lasts the entire song, and is MUCH more detailed. Some might say that "Erotic City"'s lyrics are crude. I don't think "fuck" is crude (others probably do), but there is no doubt it's explicit. "Sister"? I could see how a specific lyric within it could be pointed out as crude, but again that crude part lasts a lot less than this new song, and "Sister" is a very short song to begin with. I don't think Prince has sung any lyrics that are as detailed as much as that song in crudeness. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

What's scary is that some record producer is probably right now working on a male answer song for this "My Neck My Back" nonsense.
They'll find some clueless young man to do the song from a male's point a view. A "suck my dick and cup my balls" song is probably coming to a TV set near you any day now.

I agree...the song isn't sensual or erotic in any way. I thought I'd add this...this is what Khia had to say about the song in an interview with MTV: The mantra "sex sells" has also been followed religiously by marketing execs for many moons, though the 25-year-old said the message has only recently been embedded in her brain. People have been listening to her sexual demands on "My Neck, My Back" for months, and — much to her astonishment — they're loving it. "I guess the world is just nasty and freaky like that," she said. "It's not even my favorite song, and I was kind of surprised that's the song that everybody jumped on. ... That song is just nothing compared to my other music. It's like, 'That's what the world is about today,' so hey, it works for me. "It just spread," Khia continued, addressing the song's recent appeal. "It took its time to work its way up. I've been riding this out in the South. Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Kansas City, St. Louis, it's been out for like a year. It's just really getting to [the rest of the country]." I haven't heard any of her other music, but the comment she made about "That's what the world is about today, so hey, it works for me", makes me wonder if she'll be making more like this, because it sells. Are any of her other songs getting any attention? Full interview here: http://www.mtv.com/news/a...khia.jhtml . [This message was edited Sun Jul 14 15:13:30 PDT 2002 by AzureStar]

Yeah, the camaflouge of explicit lyrics works better because it makes the music and lyrics more poetic and beautiful, and not so raw. Besides, it can be interpreted in different ways, so you make the sense that you want out of it. That's the beauty and the difference of Prince's music as compared to these other artists. For instance, I never took 'Erotic City' as a sexually explicit song until someone mentioned it here. Well, that's what it means to them, but not to me because I chose which way I wanted to take it. Now what Kia is singing, is not artistic. That's just straight up disgusting and degrading. You get one interpetation, and one graphic image on your mind that resembles pornography. There's nothing creative or artistic about that. [This message was edited Sun Jul 14 16:22:44 PDT 2002 by Starmist7]

Now see, I liked Tweet's song. And the ones by other women on a similar theme: "I touch Myself" (sung by somebody in the 80's) and She Bop (Cyndi Lauper). Too me these songs are about a woman's power to please herself sensually and not be dependent on a man. That's empowering. Tweet's song is a narrative and she tells her post-man experience delicately. talking about the clothes coming off piece by piece. There's nothing really explicit. She leaves enough to the imagination to make it interesting and sexy. Now if she had talked about insertions and stuff then.. maybe I'd lump her with Khia, but Tweet kept it subtle and is definitely more musically talented than Khia. There's an argument journalists keep bringing up that Prince sang about the same things, just more tastefully.
To me, that's the point. There's a more tasteful way 2 do things. Today's artists are just too graphic, especially considering the audience they're promoted to - teenagers. When my co-worker told me that his 13-year-old had just purchased the infamous Lil' Kim CD (basing it on the edited version of No Time), I asked him had he listened 2 it. I can imagine his face when hit with the opening lyrics, "I use to B scared of the dick. Now I throw lips 2 the shit. Handle it like a real bitch..." HE may have cracked a smile , and probably kept it 4 himself when he took it away from her the next day. But, the point is he knew it was too much 4 a 13-year-old 2 be listening to. I'm not necessarily blaming artists as much as marketing and media. It's about who they're promoting the product to. Also, abucah made an interesting observation about Prince & sexuality. Check it out. http://www.prince.org/msg...&tid=18180

I don't like the lyrics and I haven't heard the song, thank God. There is nothing wrong with a woman expressing her sexuality, however, like someone mentioned above, why does expressing it have to involve a base and negative overtone. What I mean by "base and negative" is it leaves a bad taste in the mouth - well, maybe not to some men. I have never understood man's need to turn something beautiful like sex into something so dirty and unspeakable to enjoy it, like the tabooness of the subject is what is the centerpoint of the mind to enjoy it.
Sex is so beautiful and it isn't so much the act which she is singing about that is disgusting - it's the way it's presented like serving food on a dirty plate. Even though yes, Prince was very open in his lyrics, it is what I loved about him most. You could tell that he didn't view sex as dirty and something you shouldn't be doing - but natural regardless of how you wish to express it. I was fortunate enough to enjoy Prince's Dirty Mind as I was coming of age, so I was right there with him and it was fun, beautiful, experimental and you were left feeling good about all that you did or expressed. Khia is merely playing onto the general consensus of sex - the same mindset which sells it for its rebellious explicitedness, however, very few women understand how to do this because they feel this is the only way to get men interested in them. This is so far from the truth, but there's enough bozos out there who convince the media that it's lucrative. If that's what she wants to do, then . . . I've heard nothing but complaints about the song, even on other message boards from women and men. LQ

Even the people that are making the dirty records now have said Prince was really pushing the lyrical boundaries, FOR THAT TIME. Obviously most of what Prince sang back then would not be flinched at these days by most people because a lot of people feel its less derogatory by comparison. Anyone who has listened to a lot of the dirty records over the last decade or so knows this is depths of the gutter stuff in comparison to even Dirty Mind. Those who don't realize it are oblivious to the content of a lot of the stuff and will just go by what they know of Prince's old music by saying he was just as bad. Just as I wouldn't allow my kids to listen to some of Prince's stuff at a certain age, I sure wouldn't allow them to listen to any of the base level music that is worst.
