Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way

Picked this up today and like it alot after one listen. WAY better than Californication. It builds strongly on whatever it was they were trying to do with that record.

Anybody else heard it? It's been fun watching this band grow, even thought Anthony still can't really sing. I found out these guys headlined a free concert here in Atlanta on Wedensday. Found this out today. Pisser.

Four stars.

I haven't heard it yet, but based on your recommendation, I think I'll pick it up! I really did like "Californication" a great deal.

Get it. If you liked the last one, you'll LOVE this one. I didn't even know it was out and just stumbled on it.

Also, re: Anthony, his voice never bothered me, I just meant he can't sing any traditional sense. I LIKE his voice and I LOVE this band. Don't get me wrong. And based on one listen: cahnge my rating to:

4 and half stars

Thanks for the heads-up, herbthe4. I wasn't crazy about Californication, but I do like RHCP. Anyway, I wasn't aware that it was out already, so thank you!!

Another great Los Angeles band.
No other city compares for the breadth and depth of bands as Los Angeles.
Must be the mole (the mixture).
The rest of you can't wait to see what comes out next. Whether u like it or not, you will comment.

Prince and the Chili Peppers are my two biggest influences,
finally I get a chance to talk about both of them in the same
place. "By the way" is a beautiful encapsulation of love and
loss. Despite the roller coaster of lyrical sentiment the album
maintains a positive vibe throughout (very rare in modern
music). At first I was a little worried about the apparent
lack of "Funk" (I've encountered fans that have been rather
dismissive of the album for this reason alone), however the
vocal arrangements (harmonies) = pure aural bliss. It always
surprises me when fans bitch about an artists right 2 grow and
progress. Apart from John there all about 2 hit 40. Honestly,
who expected them 2 wear socks on there cocks and scatter shot
RAP about sex forever?

IMO the Peppers have really excelled themselves.

Oh By the way Vashti, there's a great difference
between popular song writing "craft" and mass produced "Boy
band" pop fodder!

If they met at the listening party I would have loved to have seen a photo of Anthony and Prince together, would've been quite surreal IMO. A dream come true would be them working together (Prince and the whole band), John Frusciante and Prince trading guitar licks would be the ultimate. Although maybe they'd b a little 2 hyper for Prince, Flea's naked bass playing might not go down 2 well with J.W rock musician performance regulations.

I've never really warmed to the chili's, Kiedis' voice i simply cannot deal with. I don't like the new album either, it's way too mellow and i have them all. They are one band i've really tried to make an effort to like but they just don't do it for me.
If anyone wants to check out a great rock album pick up The Bellrays - Grand Fury, its absolutely superb. As well as this the new Queens Of The Stone Age album is worth a listen, it rocks like a bastard.

"Pop crap" simply means "radio friendly"...The new album is far beneath any RHCP album I've heard thus far...I'm sure that "by the way" will be the only hit off the album...

and by the way...I really like your signature! smile

That single has one of the best bass lines I've heard on the radio in many years! Funky FLEA! As far as Anthony singing- I see him as today's Mick Jagger. Not the best technical voice, but he has alot of soul and it fits the music and is original as well.
