Dangelo's career over?

There was time when I'd check monthly on when Dangelo was coming out with a new cd. His career started 10 plus years ago and the man has released exactly 2 cd's. I know he has recorded at least 10 cd's worth of stuff but what good does that do the "fan" if it is never released? I'm sad to say, but I stopped checking for a new release from D.

I hope I'm wrong but I think the brother is done. What a waste.

With D's run ins with the law and drug problems, he might be going out just like Sly did 30 years ago. I hope I'm wrong because he was one of the few R&B cats left that I liked.

Oh well..I'm glad I still have Me'shell and Lewis Taylor.

unless, of course, you're a fan, in which case he'll be missed quite a bit.

I saw D's video Send It Up, I think, on VH1 Soul the other day and all of a sudden, I got sad. It's a damn shame that brotha can't get himself together to make music for whatever his reasons are. The potential to be a powerhouse was so there. Even though I thought Voodoo was a snoozefest, I loved Brown Sugar and even with Voodoo I saw promise. Maybe he will surprise me but at this point I think it's probably lights out. disbelief
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I really liked Brown Sugar. I did not like the majority of Voodoo. I always thought he took two steps backward with that cd because it just sounded liked knock offs of other peoples stuff with little orginality. At least Sly with all his problems was making original stuff and putting out an album every couple of years before he lost control of of his life.

Yeah but Prince was never in the kind of trouble D''s been in. P never had drug issues or run-ins with the law that kept him from cutting wax.

In fact, it's kind of weird that Prince has never had ANY run-ins with the law or any substance problems that we know of. Kind of odd and rare at the same time for a man that's been in the industry for almost 30 years now.

It's not just the run-ins with the law...if you remember the Alan Leeds interview, Alan said:

"D'Angelo's got enough amazing material for ten albums by now. Unfortunately, due to an on-going dispute with Virgin Records, there's still no deadline to deliver a finished record - much less a release date. I could do another number on the pitfalls and limitations of today's music industry and how they inhibit an artist such as D'Angelo, but I'll spare you the pain. Sooner or later, an album will find its way to the public and, God willing, D'Angelo will be motivated to find his way back to the stage. And then we can re-start our mission to share this young man's true stature. At his core, he probably IS the most gifted and exciting artist and performer since Prince. I live for the day when the rest of the world can discover what a few of us already know about the
depths of his gift. "

Mr7

Alan Leeds is forgetting to mention drugs.

I love D'Angelo but he will never reach the status he deserves unless he gets some albums out to the public soon.

My interest in his previous albums have waned. I don't think they stand the test of time.

They are not the 'timeless classics' they were hyped up to be. The 'better than Prince' tag seems like a bit of a joke now.

I see his first two as like Prince's first two albums, just D'Angelo enjoyably finding his feet with a few good songs in between.

I always thought the best was yet to come. Lets hope so.

Peace

One of the problems with many of these "neo-soul" artists is that they take too damn long to release a new album.D'Angelo's last CD was released in 1999! In the music world, that is an eternity and many people have moved on and forgotten about him.If and when D'Angelo ever releases a new CD,who knows if his audience will still be there?

"The Artist Arrested For Doing The Nasty At The Movies

Craig Rosen

(7/14/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - While Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst was arrested in Minnesota for assault (LAUNCH, 7/14), the Artist Formerly Known As Prince reportedly found himself in trouble with the law in the same state for making love.

According to the Artist's official website, www.love4oneanother.com, he and "his woman were questioned and released after apparently being discovered making love in a public cinema in Chanhassen, Minn."

However, the site says that no charges were filed against the former Prince, since he had rented out the theater after-hours "and it couldn't be considered a crime, as they were alone at the time.""

Yes, that phrase inspired some speculation! At the time he was still married to Mayte, hopefully it was her! wink

BTW, why doesn't The Vault mention this incident?
