He bombed here in L.A. at The Greek Theatre last year and the folks up front in the pit were givin' it up.

tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 Really? Damn. I can see if George was fucking up, but usually the band is cold-blooded. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

For the "ain't he dead yet" comment I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

Mike and Blackbyrd are usually rippin' it up! i don't really expect anything more from George besides a few taps on the mic and a couple of mumbles.

i don't think he'd do to well doing stand up. i have a feeling he'd keep forgetting the punchline. and isn't standing one of the qualifications.

Yep. he's done that everytime i've seen him. couple times he took it to some interesting places. i think the biggest impression he made on me was about 10 years ago when he forced Blackbyrd to take this 30 min solo. Blackbyrd would look at him like he had nothing else to give, but George wouldn't let him off the hook.

The band might have been OK but the sound was horrid. Blackbyrd was tryin' to hold it down alone most of the night. No Mike and no Bernie. Bootsy gave him support when he was onstage. I totally understand why he keeps his P-Funk appearances to a minimum. At one point, one of the guitar techs was in one of the guitar spots. Other than that......bad news. I give George Clinton all the respect for what he's put out there in the past. But at some point, you've gotta present decent product or pack up shop. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. FWIW: That Greek Theater show was pretty disastrous, but there was probably too much going on that was anathema for a really good PFunk show (I've to been ALL in LA/OC for the the past 25 years):
1) reserved seating: folks can't be seating and restricted in their movements; stick to General Admission venues. 2) early curfew: George don't start nothing til after 11 PM and the band needs a hour or so to warm-up. The Greek is in a multi-million dollar neighborhood, so all the riff-raff gets cleared before midnite. PFAS plays more than 3 hrs in LA and LA clubs start closing around 1 AM; 2 AM at the latest. somebody do the math. 3) opening acts: really not needed. obviously RHCP had to fill a void when sales ground to a slow trickle this show, but the roadies have enough chops to form a warm-up and there's no set for set changes. Matter-of-fact, a few months later, at a small club down the street from the Greek, there was a "make-up gig" based around the roadies, plus guest-spot from bandmembers, that was totally off-the hook. 4) poor stage management: this supposed to be part of George's 50 yr anniversary celebration and there was new material to be played, but the thing (for whatever reason) got ZERO promotion. (I only knew about a Tower Records signing only cuz I'm such an internet geek). Bootsy was drummed up as a big sell, but was understandably unprepared, so he bowed out until the encore. Plus plans went awry with appearances by Bernie and Mike. The crowd really wanted to hear the big hits and got nixed. Bottom-line: This was a pretty bad show, but I still had some fun(k). Seemss the PFunk name is tarnished, but that won't stop me the next time the Mothership flies (I just won't be bringin' it up no more). test

I'm feelin' you PFj.
Let me tell you, nobody wanted that show to come off more than me. Believe it or not, this was my 1st time seeing Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic. I've seen Bootsy and The Brides before but never the whole enchilada. Be sure to hit me up the next time a better situation arises. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I've seen GC 3 times now and every time I left completely funked-up and uplifted. Each time he played for 3+ hours and didn't miss a beat.

Co-Sign to this. I left when he brought the homeless guy that was hustling the line to get in for change at 3 AM. (within the last 10 years for me) Every artist has a bad night or two and it's like getting sucker punched in the eye. It sux. [Edited 3/15/06 19:17pm]

Apparently, I'm wrong. I've been corrected. The year he played the Detroit Electonic Music Festival was 2002. I don't remember it that way, but my memory is shit lately.
