Actually- there's a lot of good music out there, you just have to look at places other then MTV, Clear Channel radio stations & American Top 40 to find it...

Hey, you gotta have something to occupy your time since there's no good new music to occupy it. I'd rather hear a recording of people just sitting around bitching on the radio than what's actually being played on it. lol

Sorry to hear that you have no good music radio stations to listen to.
I guess some ppl are not willing to search for good music shrug

I listen to a great non-commercial listener sponsored community radio station that plays all types of music. That is where I find most of the new music- lord knows I won't here it on mainstream stations..

A lot of times when people say there is good new music but you have to search for it, it is usually not what I'm looking for.

I want some new funk. However, I do not want funk that is mixed with jazz and I want absolutely no hip hop influence in it whatsoever. Just good hard funk and nothing but the funk. I don't want anything midtempo either. I want some jammin' funk...the ass shakin' kind. Tell me where that is and I'll be glad to look for it.

I feel the same way! I want some REAL funk.I'm sick of midtempo,sample-heavy R&B with the guest rapper. Those of us from the "old school" need the real thing.

You can join those hard bop and punk fans who are waiting for more from their favorite genres.

Let me join in on this cause I wish we had some real funk out there but I don't know if that'll ever happen. And the way the world is today, hip hop will find a way to pop it ugly head out in the middle of the song. A man can dream though.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

falloff

clapping I would too. I actually listened to to Mariyln Monroe singing "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" last night thinking, "Hell, even Marilyn Monroe could sing better than most of the people with careers these days!" whofarted She was actually pretty good I realized. biggrin

I was going to start a thread about how I've been listening to Paul Simon, James Taylor, John Denver, Wings, The Carpenters, and various others who I used to make fun of and say were crap my whole life. lol (well, I've always loved John Denver) I've come to realize that they actually have some amazing work and I wonder if I started getting into them BECAUSE of the state of music today.

Either way, I guess I can be thankful that most music I hear today sucks ass because I've been forced to keeping digging and continue discovering music I missed out on because I wrote off certain artists as cheesy. biggrin

Please let the day NEVER come though when music is so horrendous, that I have to say, for example, that Celine Dion or Nelly were geniuses back in their day. pray lol

But . . . Parade and Lovesexy ARE masterpieces in their own right.

ATWIAD was an interesting album with 2 masterpieces featured on it.

I said ATWIAD, Parade, and Lovesexy are masterpiece compared to music that is out today.
But I didn't say that they are masterpiece compared to the stuff that prince did before 1984 or other type of music before 2000.

I always adjusted to the different changes. I adjusted from disco, to funk, then to house. The house turned into techno where it's so fast that you would have to be strung out on drugs to dance to it. Everything else slowed down to a snail's pace. It ain't even got to be funk...hell, give me a new form of music then...something you can at least dance to. Every decade had that until the 1990s came along.

I know exactly what you mean. During the 1980s, I was so heavy into funk that I never listened to much rock. When hip hop took over R&B, I took all the current R&B stations off my dial and switched over to pop/rock stations. I was doing fine for awhile until the accoustical/folk sounding stuff started invading it. I started going back and discovering groups I never cared before before and came to love The Carpenters. I don't think I'm desperate enough for John Denver yet. lol

This discussion is kind of funny because of the way I look at it I guess.
I never have a problem finding "new" music to hear.

Maybe it's because there's so much music I haven't heard yet and the way I see it, until i've heard it, it's new to me.
That's whether it was created in 1906 or 2006. Just a different point of view.
