Apparently, I'm wrong. I've been corrected. The year he played the Detroit Electonic Music Festival was 2002. I don't remember it that way, but my memory is shit lately. I saw George & company the other night in N.J. and although it was great to see them jam, the show was looooong and drawn out. George kept smoking joints that were thrown up to him and pretty much had the audience sing the words for him all night. I don't understand this "let the roadie come out and jam" thing. What's up with that?
I was glad to see that Mike, Byrd, Boogie, Gary, and Grady were with him. The opening act "Children Of Production" (featuring George's granddaugher) was OK, but they need to get rid of their M.C. hypeman. This guy yelled in the mic all thru their set on how "they're the next generation of funk" and "they're taking over"....OK, whatever. Shut up and let me hear these REAL musicians play. As much as I love The Mob, it's time to pack it up and call it a day.

Let me tell you, nobody wanted that show to come off more than me. Believe it or not, this was my 1st time seeing Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic. I've seen Bootsy and The Brides before but never the whole enchilada. Be sure to hit me up the next time a better situation arises. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 I saw P-Funk at the Fillmore in SF a week after the Greek Theater show and it was a let down I love George and the crew (and I have seen them many times) but it was junior varsity all night long. It was a shame really. [Edited 3/16/06 6:38am] a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

I was blessed to first see Parliament when I was little at The Forum. I went with my 2 older cousins. It was the wildest concert I've ever been to, and I've been to many. It was wild cuz u had damn near 20 folks on stage with George looking unworldly. Although he had on the standard pimp gear of the 70's, the long white fur coat, he had the long white wig and fur cane. He looked cool as hell, but kinda spooky at the same time. Granted, George was rail thin back then. Nothing like the buddah he looks like now. That combined with the ship, him disappearing at the top, and all of the other cats dressed the way they were,... The music was loud but funky. It basically was a rock concert, but with 98% black folks smoking weed and shouting like they were in church. Later, I've seen the P-Funk All Stars at least 8 times. Had the pleasure of meeting Hampton and I know Blackbyrd fairly well. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

some interesting stuff on this thread. i'll admit George has given me some stepped on funk before, but i've never lost any love for him. i'm always in the crowd when he comes through and i don't care if he shows up in a walker and someone has place the mic in his hand i'll still be there. i guess i really turn out not for George's performance but for his spirit. this man (and associates) were catalsyt for some of the most sonically blessed music to ever vibrate on this earth and for that i attend to give thanks, kinda like church i guess.

theAudience said: sinisterpentatonic said: yeah! Mike and Blackbyrd are usually rippin' it up! i don't really expect anything more from George besides a few taps on the mic and a couple of mumbles. The band might have been OK but the sound was horrid. Blackbyrd was tryin' to hold it down alone most of the night. No Mike and no Bernie. Bootsy gave him support when he was onstage. I totally understand why he keeps his P-Funk appearances to a minimum. At one point, one of the guitar techs was in one of the guitar spots. Other than that......bad news. I give George Clinton all the respect for what he's put out there in the past. But at some point, you've gotta present decent product or pack up shop. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 That's sad to hear. the last time I saw these cats they tore up the stage for 4 hours in San Diego.

NO ROOM FOR DANCING!!!!! I wasn't there, but I was at a truly fantastic show at its sister location GALAXY THEATER in Santa Ana This was in'95. Bootsy wasn't there but he was rumored to be in the house, so maybe SJC was the night before (it's common on the So Cal circuit). The following night they played Universal Amphitheater, but it was a multi-act show and I bowed out. Bootsy did too. test

I ditched everybody (no one wanted to give up the funk with me) and rode the Mothership for the first time! I resolved to be on top of the buzz ever since and I've crashed quite a few corporate "private" gigs. test

I saw P-Funk down in Solana Beach. I can't remember the name of the place. It was really small but I always had the best seat in the house.
