But TTD/SM is the real deal, in my book.

Symphony or Damn released 1993 is a masterpiece. I never use that
word lightly but it is a masterpiece. If u like Prince, u will love
this album. Its a better album than anything Prince ever released in
the 90s

Ugly cover art aside, TTD has one of the coolest voices in rock/pop/whatever today. He borrows a lot from Sam Cooke, but adds his own style of bravado and grit, too. And, what a lyricist.

Saw him live, maybe 2 years ago,sounded better at the gig than on the cd's to my ears.

Im sure I heard his voice on a commercial recently

I always found him a little too cheesy for my liking. However if there was no Prince or MJ I think he would have been an even bigger star, because I think when he first came out many people automatically saw him as a cross between MJ and Prince and didn't quite know what to make of him.

Another thing, does anyone know how old he is now? And did he ever make it big in the USA because he seems to have base himself in Europe?

The problem is, TTD is still a bit of an egotistical knob.

Whatever you do NEVER make the mistake I did and join his mailing list.

He sends personal e-mails written by himself almost every few weeks and they are filled with utter nonsense.

They are like the worst New Age books never published.

I enjoy some of his music but he does think he's Jesus.

Maybe I missed something in this thread, but how come TTD doesn't get panned as a obvious Prince clone? From the music, to the appearance and right down to copping a name-change and an independent anti-major labels stance; only to resurface as the same ol' guy with newer tunes.

Geez does he have any originality?

Admittedly, I'm one of those that never moved past THE HARDLINE. I only dug half that album (generous at that), so if I'd have to catch up figure him out.

And he was on UK TV (Channel 4 IIRC) last night. The show was called "Faith & Music" or something like that.
