Isaac Hayes: What a maroon! So Isaac Hayes, who is best known for one hit in the early seventies, has quit the show that signaled his return from Show Business Siberia.
Hayes claims that he quit South Park because the show is intolerant of religion and religious beliefs, but had no problems singing about his "Chocolate Balls" and cashing South Park checks as the show satired religion since its inception in 1997. Until of course the show targeted *his* "religion", Scientology. What a hypocrite. Scientology is as much a religion as Tom Cruise is a heterosexual. It's a "religion" created by a Science-Fiction Writer(!) in the 1950's. I guess none of its adherents sees the irony in having their entire belief system created by a D-Level Hack who made his living MAKING STUFF UP. I hope Isaac Hayes's conscience sits well with him given the number of people cheated, bamboozled, victimized, and bullied by the Church of Scientology. See www.rickross.com and the book written by L. Ron Hubbard's son for a taste of what Scientology is all about. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

...and I'm giving Alasseon the benefit of the doubt and assuming you weren't aware of this, but the word you used in your thread title is actually a racial slur dating back to the slave trade. The Normal Whores Club

Hi, Mistress. As a person of color of African ancestry, I did not know that. To be honest, I was calling him a "maroon" from the Bugs Bunny cartoons as a corruption of "moron". It was meant as an innocuous insult with no bearing on his skin color, but since no one remembers the old Bugs Bunny cartoons, I'll stop using it. Thanks, though, for the benefit of the doubt. Some people tell me I've got great legs...

A lot of folks are unaware (which is no accident if you ask me.) Warner Brothers was forced to make a statement about racism in Bugs Bunny cartoons in which they claimed that "maroon" was intended to be a mispronunciation of "moron," but it was a bunch of BS. They pledged not to use it or other offensive terms like "cotton-pickin'" in future works. The Normal Whores Club

Maroons were also people of African decent who fought the slave trade in Jamaica. Their resistance was so intense that an out-done British army was forced to sign a peace treaty with them. [Edited 3/14/06 9:27am] A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Hmm this is interesting. I don't think he's a moron though. Scientology is a very weird religion.
Although I immensly enjoyed Issac Hayes as Chef on South Park, I do think his departure over his dissent with the content is a little misguided. He should have known...given the history of that show, that it was a matter of time before they attacked his religion. That he'd leave over this issue and not the countless other ones that show has, is sort of silly, I think. Christian Zombie Vampires
