The singles are good, but nothing else really grabs me (save for the fairly infectious "Survival"), and as with the "Like A Virgin" album, she sounds too commercial and safe.

There are some decent cuts on the album, but the album itself is a big nay for me.

People always say Madonna has been an opportunist and worked with the hottest producers, and up until the Bedtime Stories album that wasn't necessarily true. It's seen as damage control from the Erotica period, my favorite era.

Though i'll give her credit for choosing such an un-obvious single in Bedtime Story and Human Nature when there were more potential radio hits. She also made some killer videos from the singles on this album.

It's in my top 5 Madonna albums. Actually, probably top 3. I LOVE it.

It a big huge YAY for me. Even more so than when it was out. I think it's aging really well and I find that it's one of her albums I'm most often in the mood to hear. I wish she'd make a smooth, sexy r+b album like that again actually.

And this is a perfect opportunity for me to show off again. mr.green

This is a great road CD. The first time I heard it, I was on a road trip and it was fabulous for that. Nice and moody. I have to say, though there are a bunch of good songs, the CD as a whole totally bores me now. Sometimes I put it on and try to get into it, then end up changing to something else. confused

I'll give it a YAY. There's some track on there that I really like. However, most of them are stuck in the second half of the disc and I tend to think the album would be more enjoyable, as a whole, if the track order was different.

Actually, even for me it's a "yay". It's the only Madonna album I have ever liked.

a YAY. Hard to explain why, but this has always been one of my favorite Madonna albums. Aside from the Junior Vasquez Slumber Party MTV Special thing, there wasn't much hoopla over this album, it just kinda dropped. It didn't feel like some big production where Madonna was trying to shove some new look of hers, or some new sound, down your throat. She was basically spinning her wheels, experimenting with a few different sounds, and for whatever reason it all just worked.

yay.

not my fave, but very good. more of a smooth r&b sound, and the beginning of the latter day madonna electronica sound.

and human nature is probably my fave madonna video ever, and one hell of a song. also am still in love with the title song and secret as well.

Human nature with Borderline are my favourite Madonna songs. But looking at the list of songs on Bedtime Stories it seems some of those songs are covers. Correct me if I am wrong wasn't "Love Don't Live Here anymore" and "I want You" awful cover versions of Rolls Royce and Marvin Gaye's classic material.?

Nay. The utter drivel like 'I'd Rather Be Your Lover' and 'Love Tried To Welsome Me', as well as that awful title track are reasons I rarely put the CD on.

Nay. I'm a huge Madonna fan, but it is probably one of the least favorite of her albums. I never listen to it anymore.
I don't think the smooth R&B suited her. I think she was confused after the Sex era, and got away from being herself and copied what everyone else was doing. The dance sound of COAD is much more her. I do however enjoy some of the non R&B tracks like Bedtime Story, which was a precussor to her work on Ray of Light.

It's a "Yay" for me. I can see why some don't like it as it doesn't really sound like a cohesive effort. Madonna herself has said that this was the toughest record she's ever made due to the fact that she worked with so many producers on it. That said, I love this album - it's like a great collection of singles, each showcasing what she does best, and highlighting her range - pop, dance, r&b. "Secret," in my opinion, is her strongest single to date.

Gangsta - I LOVE "Let Down Your Guard" - but what are "Freedom" and "Your Honesty" like? Are they any good?

Gangsta - I LOVE "Let Down Your Guard" - but what are "Freedom" and "Your Honesty" like? Are they any good?

"Freedom" is on a rainforest benefit album from '97 called "Carnival". It's a slow, sexy funky little song with wah wah rhythm guitar and smooth harmonies. It fits well as a transition between the 1st and 2nd half of the album because it's funkier like the first half, but slower like the 2nd. It's also a cross between a message song and a love song. It's pretty good. I like it.

"Your Honesty" is a "Bedtime Stories" outtake that later appeared on her "Remixed & Revisited" EP for "American Life" for no apparent reason. It doesn't fit with those remixes at all. But it does go very well with the first half of "Bedtime Stories". It's not too dissimilar from "I'd Rather Be Your Lover" and "Don't Stop" and it even has a feel of some of her older songs like "Keep It Together". At first, I didn't like it too much but it's grown on me quite a bit since I made the above compilation.
