Solar Records

...

Don't know why, but lately I've been riding the Solar records catalog pretty hard, including these records:

No...It was on Columbia, they just used those same producer/writers....remember "Save the Overtime for Me?", and "Your'e Number #1" ...and they both had that classic Solar sound....I shoulda said, "I'm on a Leon Sylvers III, et al kick" , instead of Solar per se....

Good stuff!

Those Lakeside covers are a trip.
I remember being in an adjacent rehearsal room to those cats in the '80s.
No wonder they used drawings for the album covers, they couldn't fit 'em all in a picture.
There must have been at least a thousand of them dudes. lol

They had a different theme every year ranging from Robin Hood, cowboys, jockeys, pirates, genies, The Untouchables, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, etc.

They used to come to my city every year with Shalamar and The Whispers. I never got the chance to see them live (in the 1980s) but I remember they came one year and everyone came to school the following Monday talking about their stage set. It was a pirate ship. I never personally got to see them live until 2001 and the clothes and stage were just "normal" by then.

I remember being in an adjacent rehearsal room to those cats in the '80s.

I knew I could count on the usual suspects on this thread... lol

Great music, love all of it, but was too young back then to see them live...I think they never even came over here.

I was around 12 but a hardcore SOLAR fan nevertheless.

One of my favorite disco jams. The song sounds like they came up with a hot groove, but decided not to write any lyrics. The hook is repeated over and over, and it sounds as if Carrie is just making up ad libs on the spot...

feels real good now....so good,so good!
come on and "oh oh oh'
I like it...I like it!
I need ya...I need ya

lol sounds really funky and spontaneous

Besides the outside-Solar production of Gladys Knight's album ,
i've heard some other slammin' Sylvers,III projects :

Real To Reel released only 2 , but great maxi-singles , from their then-forthcoming but never-released album in 1983 .
The other maxi-single was the track " Can You Treat Me Like She Does " .
It had the co-operation of Jam & Lewis . This was the era when Jimmy & Terry just began to explore in the West Coast , which evolved in projects with artists like Cheryl Lynn , Klymaxx , The SOS Band and eventually their commercial break with Damita-Janet square

" Can You ... " has been issued on a sampler-CD .

http://www.cduniverse.com...7360&BAB=M

The cd-title seems a little misleading , because " Can You ..." is far from a slowjam , besides a few other faster or mid-tempo tracks on there .

_____

This 1984 production has some solid Sylvers-trademarked jams

So many sleeves have been forgotten to be put here shrugsquare

I guess this one here is as unknown as well :

It also contains a version of " Olivia " .
One of Sunbear's members was Aghuana Sun , who drummed on early sessions with Maze & Frankie Beverly .

The album was released on Don Cornelius' " Soul Train "-label ... a project in which Leon had some input too .
This label later evolved into the eventual Sound Of Los Angeles Record Company , which was taken over by Dick Griffey .
