Bowie on Dick Cavette (Icons dvd set) omg

He is COKED out! Its great! And disturbing at the same time. And Luther in the background during the performances. This is when Bowie was freaky/scary.

i haven't seen the dick cavett dvds she's talking about, but i've seen the whole thing via, ahem, "other methods"...and he does that, then goes into a funk revue with "footstompin'" and "i wish i could shimmy like my sister kate"..."young americans" is kinda scary and coked out, but the funk stuff he does on that episode is AMAZING.

I love this one! He's nuts and close to dead

Have you seen Sly on that same show? Even more out of his mind. I mean, he was REALLY out of his mind.

Nah. Bowie had him beat methinks. Sly was damn near subdued, Bowie acted as if he had razor blades in his draws

Well, I'm no expert on being high... they both seemed pretty zoinked! Sly was more chillin' and Bowie seemed kind of nervous.

sly was more incoherent in the interview part, but they were both killer in their performances. even at his most zonked, bowie could at least pull of some kind of wicked charm when he had to. sly, i don't know...he just would go OUT THERE, bless him. lol

Those "fill in the artist"/Dick Cavett interviews are priceless.

Jimi Hendrix was like can I just get this over with.
Miles Davis was priceless putting Nicolas Cage in his place for even having the nerve to bring a trumpet with him.

?? Nicholas Cage? I thought the Dick Cavett show was from late 60s/early 70s.

I run the gamut with music. It's something that's always affected the work. The acting. Miles Davis has had a big impact on me. I listened to the Kind of Blue album the whole time I was doing Leaving Las Vegas. When I was doing Peggy Sue Got Married I listened to Lou Reed's Transformer. He would sing a bit out of tune, and that sucked me into the song even more than if he had been singing in pristine fashion. I met Miles on The Dick Cavett Show years ago. It was right after Raising Arizona.
