She's the SAME person putting out the SAME music (unless her output started really sucking) so what would be the reason for not supporting the "out" Missy vs. the "closeted" Missy? It's just all so dumb, that confirming who you've been for years already can change the course of/ruin your career hammer

I think it would damage Missy's career if she came out, but not as much as you'd might think. Lets face it, Missy is a wonderful person, but Miss America she ain't! It would be like Janet Reno coming out. Who cares! Most guys aren't lining up to snuggle with her anyway. Guys who listen to Missy, only do so for the music. They're not fantasizing about being in the throes of passion with Elliot. But there would certainly be some type of fall out. Recently, I mentioned to a fundamentalist coworker that most people assume Tyler Perry was gay. Instantaneously, she went from being a fan of Perry to being a detractor. Even though Perry is basically T.D. Jakes in drag, she refuses to promote his "lifestyle" by seeing his plays and movies. It's amazing how stupid people can be. Nobody chooses to be gay! So stop persecuting them for something they can't change....

Oh my GOD where do I START...
I wish Missy and Latifah would come the fuck out. This "closet" shit is getting rediculous. They're in closets with glass windows.
Tyler Perry is Donnie McClurkin's bitch. They are NOT fooling me. I wish all the hobophobes thought like you. I get treated like an alien and shit. It's so fucking annoying. I only wish we were as deviant as society makes us to be. I wish I could cause natural disasters and shit. That would be deliciously dreamy drool then nobody would fuck with us.

This is so true. It's pretty obvious to most people that Missy is a lesbo, yet it would somehow hurt her career is she SAID IT . I was just reading an article about Luther Vandross, and how he's quietly being 'outed" now that he's gone. Who didn't assume Luther was gay ?? If that's the case, how naive can you be. Yet such an obviously gay man felt the need to keep his true self hidden to maintain his career

Why are so many female hip-hop artists considered gay? hmmm

Queen Latifah
MC Lyte
Da Brat
Missy Elliott

I guess rap and hip-hop is considered "men's music",so therefore,if a woman is doing it,she must be gay or bisexual? lol

Perhaps because all of these women, are... let's be polite about it .. somewhat "masculine" in their demeanor. Beyonce or Shakira they ain't , let's face it

There was an interesting story on "60 Minutes" last night. A scientist took silent computerized footage of test subjects, and without hearing them talk, simply through body language and posture, you could easily tell who was gay .
His point was that "gayness" seems to be an inherent trait, and not learned behavior or "choice" .Not saying that you can always tell "a book by it's cover", but the point is that in many cases you can

salt'n'pepa were never rumored to be lesbians. there are a lot of female hip-hop artists who have never been thought of as gay. i've heard the rumors about latifah and i wouldn't be surprised, but i'm not 100% convinced. missy? yeah. she sets my gaydar into hyperdrive.

It's such a shame that we're in 2006 and us gay people still can't be honest about who we are. I wish things would change and they are but it's just so slow in it changing. It would be great if Missy could come out but she's going to do what she thinks is best. I'll support her if her music is slammin, gay or not.

We live in a very heteronormative society. Everyone's assumed straight until proven otherwise. You don't really "exist" unless you speak out.

aight, so i skipped a lot of the comments here. forgive me if i'm repeating things.

what kind of stupid ass questions were they? i'd think if you were desperate enough to wait around for 8 hours to get 10 minutes with someone you would have some decent questions to ask. and if you didn't, 8 hours is a long time; a few decent questions can be thought up in 8 hours.

disbelief
