I think Flag Day is one of the best pop songs ever written.

A Hidden gem waiting to be covered.

Idon"t remember that one I'd always love Happy Hour and Think For Minute is great! I think that the singer was the leader of Beautiful South after their separation..

I loved both of their albums at the time, and I still like them quite a bit despite their boneheaded marxism. Happy Hour, Me and the Farmer, Sitting on a Fence and a good half-dozen others are prime pop music; imaginative harmonies, lasting melodies. I'm sure anyone who has a taste for UK guitar pop would like them a lot.

I've only heard the Beatiful South's first album. I was fairly luke-warm on it, and I never really paid attention after that. I'm not even sure if they're still about, actually.

The Beautiful South are still alive and crafting perfect pop gems as usual.
They have a new album out in a couple of months.

Norman Cook also enjoyed some post-Housemartins success as Beats International first and Fatboy Slim later

Thank jumpin' Jesus for this thread!!

Really one of the best bands of the '80s. The songs sound better than they did then. My recent disovery? "Drop Down Dead" woot!

I love the song "Happy Hour". Whichever album that is fom I own on vinyl, but I never really gave it much attention. Maybe I should put that on again.

Hmm My favorite song was Caravan of Love the vocals and lyrics just always made me happy when i was drinking at the closest (chicago bar).

And Then I heard The Beautiful South and my life changed, I had never heard such intelligent witty and bitter lyrics.

Needless to say i fell in love instantly and have been a fan every since. Though over time ive learned to keep the Beautiful South to myself...to many people who ive exposed them too thought i was a bit scary afterwards.

They are still one of my favorite groups. Just Amazing Music.
