I want what you are smoking...On the other hand, maybe you should sell it on the street...it seems pretty potent...

Do you get the feeling like me that many MJ fans have become so deluded. It's not about them prefering Bad and Dangerous to OTW, that's more to do with personal taste. It's the fact they truely believe that the success of Bad and Dangerous had nothing to do with Thriller or the fact that the hype surrounding the release of Bad and Dangerous was triple the hype that surround Thriller.

It is also a well known fact that up to Dangerous, at least, MJ focus was to outsell Thriller, that's why Bad was his most popish album ever and with Dangerous it was so diverse(trying to be all things to all people) that it ended up sounding almost chaotic, IMO.

The fact that many of MJ fans can't see these things(and it's not about them prefering Bad to Thriller, that's down to personal taste) tells me they were either too young to remember MJ pre-Bad or they only started to take interest in him in the last 18 yrs or so.

Another thing, like MJ many MJ fans are so obsesse with record sales as if to say it's the record sales that make you a Great artist.!!

Well I will agree with you that some MJ fans are obsessed with record sales...But I actually think Dangerous was an underrated album in many respects (That's another story)...Bad, however, is not my favorite MJ moment on wax (He just tried too hard to please...)...As far as MJ's hardcore fans, you have to remember that in the '90s, as MJ's popularity in the US dwindled, he staked his claim overseas...Most of the younger MJ followers are rarely American...They are the young kids who grew up overseas only knowing the Dangerous and History years...To them, this was the MJ's peak era...Those '90s tours never reached US shores...It's only natural...This is why the old heads (like me) have to school the young MJ fans on what it was like to be a Michael Jackson fan when the man was bigger the Beatles and Elvis combined...That said, Off The Wall and Thriller should never be dismissed for his later albums...

Dangerous is my fav! His personal artistic peak for me! History was excellent also. I think Off the Wall is his most consistently great record.

I have no problem with people thinking Dangerous or Bad or History is his best album. It's all to do with personal taste although I do believe inspite of there being some great songs on Dangerous, the album was too diverse for my liking, there was no consistency. Bad was too poppy for my taste and History was just over the top, IMO.

I even understand that most of his more recent fans are from over seas, but I come from england and way before Thriller MJ had a big fanbase in the UK. MJ and the Jacksons always had quite a big fanbase world wide well before Thriller.

For me, Off The Wall and Thriller are both masterpieces, they are 2 records that will stand as the peaks of popular music in the 80's. But I think the problems started with Bad, which was a follow-up to the massive, Thriller album. Michael wanted the Bad album, in some way, to even be a bigger and calculated album than Thriller. Everytime I listen to the Bad album, I hear a more mechanical production than Thriller and Off The Wall. In fact, the album's instrumentation is synthesizer driven and the songwriting on some songs is apparently not really strong. It just seems that most of the album's material was rushed with not enough better ideas, but Bad is still a classic album, in my mind. Dangerous was probably his riskest record, only because he was working with the biggest and hottest new jack producers like Teddy Riley and he incorporated a little more urban music in the production. But the Dangerous album was very diverse and epic in its own way. HIStory was a little over the top in both its production and concept. I mean, there were some weak tracks like the title track, 2 Bad, Little Susie, and the crappy, Smile. Isn't one of my favorite MJ albums, but it was a pretty good record.
