Madonna does the right thing....

Madonna Quits Acting

Madonna has vowed never to star in another movie, because she fears her terrible acting reputation will condemn any film.

The pop superstar has worked on a string of notorious flops including "Shanghai Surprise," "Swept Away" and "Body of Evidence."

She explains, "What film can survive people saying it's going to be a bomb from the second it's announced?

"Making movies is such an effort.

"And to do that over and over again, with the possibility that I am going to get the (bleep) kicked out of me -- and they really enjoy doing it -- I mean, it doesn't make sense.

"I have sort of let it go."

ssb- I love Madonna BUT I have to say this is a good thing. Unless she does a bit part...that's cool

The other day,I went out to buy "Who's That Girl" on DVD (Maddy's best film, imo) and I found the DVD of "Dangerous Game",so I bought that too

This movie came out in the summer of 1993 but I had never seen it before.Heard alot about it,though. Most critics hated it,but some people swear that it's her best acting work.I couldn't believe what a crappy movie it is!! It was incredibly BORING and I found myself laughing at the scenes that weren't supposed to be funny...lol...the best scene is near the end, when Harvey Keitel's character cusses Madonna out. Can't explain why,but that scene cracks me up.

Shame on Madonna for participating in this crap disbelief

Same here.I like "Who's That Girl","The Next Best Thing","Evita","A League Of Their Own","Swept Away","Truth Or Dare" and her cameo in "Girl 6".

I love this comment that Madonna made in the 90s,about her movie career...

"I've been in eleven films....twelve if you count "Truth Or Dare"....and I think that half of my movies are good and half of them are shit. But honestly,I can name Academy Award-wining actors and actresses whio have done more shit films than me"

"Who's That Girl" is her best film, imo.I just bought the DVD a few days ago.Alot of funny scenes in that movie, and Madonna is charming.Shockingly, she hates this film.In an interview from 2000,she said...

"I don't like that movie.Don't like my performance in it.Any other movie I did,I would say there are things in it that are good.Or I think my performance was good, but the movie wasn't.Who's That Girl? I think all of it was pretty bad"

As I have said a million times,Madonna works best when she is playing a smaller, supporting role. She's not capable of "carrying" a film, but she always does well when she is not the star of the movie (remember the hugely successful "Dick Tracy"?).If she was truly serious about an acting career, she would have put her ego aside and accepted more roles like "A League Of Their Own".

I'm currently in the process of collecting all of her movies. These are the ones I don't have yet...

"Shangai Surprise"
"Shadows and Fog"
"4 Rooms"
"Bloodhounds Over Broadway"
"Girl 6"
"Die Another Day"

I also wouldn't mind getting "A Certain Sacrifice",which I have never seen.I've also never seen "4 Rooms" and "Shadows and Fog"....are those films any good? How is Madonna's performance?

I just bought "A Certain Sacrifice" last year, although I first saw it when I was about 15 or so.

Sean Penn was quoted a few years ago as saying mmadonna was an "un-tapped" talent, in terms of acting, and that he believed she had the potential to be very good (or something along those lines). I myself agree with him, but i think her character and personality that we all know, mega star madonna, is too powerful for people to drop their perceptions of her and see her performances without seeing Madonna. In fact i think its near impossible.

Her best movies are generally those where she's playing a similar character to herself. Ive seen her give some great performances (Dick Tracy, Desperately Seeking Susan, A League Of Their Own, Dangerous Game, Evita), but i do agree that at her worst, she can be quite wooden.

I simply cant bear to watch Shanghai Surprise or Whos That Girl, not really because she's so bad, but those movies are so fucking awful. I enjoyed Body Of Evidence, but not in an entirely serious (or erotic) way, as was intended. I thought Swept Away was okay, but a little too boring to be a good movie.

In future i suspect we'll see her act again, but id much rather see her do smaller films portraying characters that would suit her, with a decent director and a decent script, rather than movies for the box office. Hopefully she'll drop her ego about wanting to be the leading lady and be content with simply being part of a great movie project.

It's certainly worth seeing. But no, it's no good at all. In fact, it might be the single worst film I've ever seen. But that's part of what makes it so watchable - just how embarrassingly bad it is. The parts with Madonna actually speaking are priceless. lol

Pierce Brosnan wants to make a movie with Madonna
British actor Pierce Brosnan is keen to work with Madonna again, and thought her performance in the Bond film "Die Another Day" was totally underrated. He even has a role lined up for her."I thought she was underrated and I have a role in mind in which she would be great",he recently said.

I remember back in 1985,there was alot of controversy surrounding this film.Madonna's lawyers tried to block its' release, but they were unsuccessful and it came out on video. It was filmed in 1979.Isn't there a rather bold rape scene? It's on DVD now so I will definitely buy it,even though I know it's crap, lol

Director Quentin Tarentino has said the exact same thing that Sean said.He has been wanting to do a movie with Madonna for awhile now.But I agree with you....Madonna's superstar image is too strong, and it overshadows any movie that she appears in.Even if she is playing a small, insignificant role, the film is instantly considered a "Madonna movie".That's alot of pressure and she has often complained that she gets blamed for everything.

"Body Of Evidence" is one of those movies that is so bad that it's good, lol.I enjoy watching it from time to time. It's a good Friday night film. The sex scenes are just ridiculous....completely over-the-top.

Madonna made a huge mistake in the early 90s.She started the decade with two successful films that got great reviews ("Dick Tracy" and "A League Of Their Own").Notably, these were considered "family" films...fun and inoffensive. If she had stayed on this track (accepting "safe",respectable roles),she would have been fine. But instead, she had to do "Body Of Evidence" and "Dangerous Game"....raunchy,provocative movies that probably alienated the same audience that was cheering her on in "Dick Tracy" and "A League Of Their Own".

One of her biggest problems is that she often picked the wrong types of movies to do.I recall,in the late 90s,she walked away from a starring role in a movie called "Music Of The Heart".They brought in Meryl Streep to play the part and while it didn't exactly become a blockbuster, that would have been a respectable role for Madonna, especially after the well-received "Evita".Instead,Madonna chose to do "The Next Best Thing",another provocative, controversial film that was hardly a fail-safe project for her.
