Any Anita Baker fans????

It would be sooo great if she appeared either in some TV show or award show or even the charts.

I just love the fact that she have a blusy mellow voice yet deep and soulfull. I just wish she did an unreleased collapo wit Prince boy that would be off the meter, also a duet would be dope.

I picked up her 'The best of' LP today and listening to it right now relax me alot. Again I wish she could stick around.

Rapture...one of my faves
Giving You The Best That I Got...nice follow up
Compositions...excellent!

I love her style, her voice, and the funny way she moves side 2 side when she's in "the groove" while singing. 2 cool.

I remember when she was "on top", at the Grammy's she sang "God Bless The Child", it blew me away!

We miss u Anita..."365 days of the year, I want your same ol' love, baby!"

'Songstress' will always be the best effort from her and it will always have a special meaning 4 me. I have pic of myself(6 months old young lady LOL smile) with Anita carrying me and my mother sitting beside her when she attended the Apollo theatre here in Harlem NYC. She(Anita) handed my mother(alongside other special fans) a free 'Songstrees' vinyl record, I still have that vinyl record in my bedroom with that picture.

The sad thing is I was 6 months old and I can't remember shit. But the good thing is I have this funny big grin whenever I look or listen to Anita LOL.

Anita was/is still one of the classiest women of R&B. I really miss her voice and wish she would come back and give R&B some much needed class again.

I have all of her albums..."Body and Soul" still gives me chills...and she probably does one of the finest versions of "My funny valentine" I've ever heard.

Anita Baker took time off to raise her children, and in her absence, Toni Braxton came along and took Anita's place as the smooth deep-voiced R&B singer.

In 1995,Anita had a few problems with her record company (Elektra). She felt that they didn't do a good job promoting her 1994 CD 'Rhythm Of Love'.After she complained loudly, they eventually released her from her contract and she signed with Atlantic Records in 1996.However,by that point, she had lost interest in music and never completed an album. She was dropped by Atlantic.

Fast forward to 2002.She is currently working on a new album which she plans to release independently.Or,when it's completed, she may shop it around to the majors. But in the meantime, you can enjoy her new "Best Of" CD which was released by Rhino Records.

Btw,in 1990,Prince offered her a nice song called "Hold Me",which she foolishly turned down.

Anita Baker actually had an album complete a couple of years ago. However tape equipments she rented from Zomba Recording Company was defective and it messed up her studio tapes from the recording sessions. She filed a $200,000 law suit against the company. She said she paid out a total of $500,000 for the tape equipment, to hire musicians, producers and songwriters. That's the last I heard about her. She was planning to go back and rerecord the album over again using her same personnel.

Yes, she is a marvel of a talent. I LOVE HER!!! She is a rather jazzy vocalist with similiarities to another great vocalist, the late great Sarah Vaughan. In fact, The Divine One influenced Baker greatly. I like all of her albums. Remember in 1990, she presented LIL MAN with a special award on the American Music Awards. Funny when he came out and accepted the award, him and her were standing side by side...about the same height.

I thought "Rules" from her album "Giving You The Best That I Got" should have been released as a single. Stellar song with nice arrangements (nice vocal arrangements too with Anita suppling great background vocals to her own lead vocals. COMPOSITIONS was very nice too. The sound quality on the vinyl version is awesome for this album.

Anita is great! A true talent. She has a gifted voice and never got by on her looks or skimpy clothes. I have all her cd's and I miss her these days. I will have to go home and start listening to her again on a regular basis. I hope she does release something new. The latest batch of so-called r&b/hip/hop singers is pathetic. Most can't really sing and just dance around in their next-to-nothing clothes and get male hip/hop stars to appear with them on a video. It's sad really.

Hey,don't be dissin' my Toni:)

Her first CD kicks ass! Remember "Another Sad Love Song","Breathe Again" and "7 Whole Days"?

Her second CD had one song "There's No Me Without You" that SHOULD have been a single. That one is HOT!!

Her third CD was just okay, imo. The song "Spanish Guitar" is nice. But she is a GREAT vocalist and I can't wait for her next project.

I never understand the compulsion to compare and rate musicians.
Must be driven by taking too many awards shows, annual lists and
PR releases as "news items".

WOW!

I just realized a Hits collection came out...during their last "roster clean up"..Atlantic droped her. They never got an album from her..Her albums were all on Elektra...Atlantic has no patience!

Anita is seriously one of the classiest singers there ever was...in the mid-80's she brought a sense of freshness to radio (as did Sade)...very classic sounding and almost too sophisticated to make it. But it did and RAPTURE was a mega-seller and she took some Grammys home. I predict the same for Norah Jones and our generation.

I have all Anita's albums and love 'em all! I get goosebumps when I crank up "You Bring Me Joy" or "Just Because". "Body & Soul" is CLASSIC and "Rhythm of Love"(title track) is a great jazzy number...love the spoken intro and how it segues into the song!

I'm a grown ass Hispanic man but when I'm drunk enough...I can do a mean ass immitation of "Sweet Love"! My friends have told me I'm dead on! LOL..."with all my heart..."
Every minute of last night is on my face today....

Toni Braxton is Talented.Good Singer&Alright Piano Player.but as Good as She is like Boyz11Men the Stuff that Babyface did on them tends to Overshadow the Artists.to Me Braxton is as Only as Good as what a Babyface Brings to Her.She doesn't have that Voice or Edge to Seperate Herself from a Producer's Sound or Vibe IMHO.Persoanlly I'd dig for TOni Braxton to a DOnna Summer type Album from Donna's 75-79 Era in the Disco Vain.I think Braxton does way too Many Soft Songs&Up-Tempo would Do WOnders for Her Voice&Career IMHO.

Speaking of Anita/Toni.

Well, that Toni Braxton's debut song 'LOVE SHOULDA BROUGHT U HOME' was originaly written 4 Anita by Face/LA but she was pregnant at that time and she said 2 face hand it 2 Toni, the girl got some good pipes.
