Gordon Parks

Surprised no one mentioned Gordon Parks. Or maybe you did and I missed it.
I'm sure you're all aware of his passing on Tuesday. His life was a rich and full one and there's not much he didn't do.

One thing I was not aware of is that he composed for Ellington. Does anyone know of this? Can't seem to find anything.

I once went to one of his photo-exhibitions which I found very impressive. They were among the best photos I have ever seen in my life. Apart from that, I dindn´t know much about him. Only that he created the "Shaft"-Thriller in the 70s.

He was a great photographer. And yeah that "Shaft" was some thriller...zombies and everything, I hear.

It fits.

Even though he's not primarily known for music, he's got composer credits for the films Moments Without Proper Names and Shaft's Big Score.
He also wrote the score for The Learning Tree, a film he directed (first major Black director) based on the autobiographical novel he wrote.

But it was. I asked a music question:
"...One thing I was not aware of is that he composed for Ellington. Does anyone know of this?..."

I thought theAudience would have that answer. The mention was in the Daily News here but they gave no more info. Perhaps they were songs never recorded. I thought it was interesting because I'd never heard that before

Never heard that one. Although I wouldn't doubt it.
Seemed like he could do anything he attempted.

I did read where he was composing a ballet based on the life of Martin Luther King called Martin
