ESPN ESPY AWARDS lineup Santana, Snoop Dogg & Clarence Clemons to perform
Press Release Santana, Snoop Dogg, Bootsy Collins and the Original P-Funk will perform, while Clarence Clemons Temple of Soul will serve as house band at The 2002 ESPY Awards presented by General Motors and Morgan Stanley, the 10th annual industry-wide celebration of achievement in sports. This event will be televised live on ESPN from Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Wednesday, July 10 at 9 p.m. ET. "The involvement of these high-profile artists will take the entertainment value of the ESPY Awards to a whole new level, " said Ron Semiao, ESPN Vice President, Programming. "We look forward to spectacular performances." The audience will get the chance to groove to the Latin-tinged tunes of Santana. Carlos Santana commented, "As a sports fan, I'm looking forward to being part of an event that recognizes the hard work of the greatest sports athletes of our generation." In a flash back to the days of the '70s, Snoop Dogg and Bootsy Collins will join together on stage to perform "Undercova Funk (Give Up The Funk)" during The ESPY Awards. This re-mix is featured in the film "Undercover Brother" which hit theatres May 31st, 2002. Snoop Dogg, a native of Los Angeles, is a basketball fanatic and friend to many of the L.A. Lakers. When asked about playing at The ESPY Awards Snoop said, "After touring across the country this summer to New York and back, I'll be happy to be back home and jam for the fans in L.A." Clarence Clemons Clemons and his Temple of Soul group -- a 12-piece band led by the famed saxophone player from the E Street Band, will serve as the house band for the ESPY Awards and will be featured throughout the ESPN telecast. They play a style mixing R&B, soul and rock. Santana His last album, Supernatural, won eight Grammy Awards. He is putting the finishing touches on his next album, Shaman, and will be touring this summer. At the beginning of a new century and the dawn of a new millennium, Carlos Santana is at the pinnacle of a remarkable recording and performing career. Carlos' music has spanned five decades, outlasted countless musical trends, sold more than fifty million albums, played live to upwards of thirty million fans, and garnered countless awards and honors, including a 1998 induction into the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame. For over thirty years, Santana has been tirelessly creating his own unique fusion of passionate, guitar-powered music, creatively blending potent rock 'n roll with blues-driven elements, sensuous Afro-Cuban rhythms, and infusions of numerous other global music idioms. Snoop Dogg As the embodiment of '90s rap, Snoop Dogg blurred the lines between reality and fiction. Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The Chronic, Snoop Dogg quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially because of his drawled, laconic rhyming and partially because his lyrics depicted harsh realities. Snoop is currently working on a "Doggy Style" compilation and solo LP. The first album spawned by Snoop Dogg's Doggy Style Records partnership venture with MCA is about to hit. Welcome to Tha House, Volume 1, featuring Bigg Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, LaToiya Williams, Mr. Kane and E-White (collectively known as the Doggy Style All-stars), will be released this summer. BOOTSY COLLINS Substitute music for sports, and it's the life story of William "Bootsy" Collins. Born in the West End of Cincinnati Ohio, he was a staff musician at King Records by the time he was 15. At 17 he was touring the world with James Brown. At 50, he's still finding new worlds to conquer. It's hard to think of another musician with a 30-plus year career who has remained as diverse and as contemporary as Bootsy. He's been on heavy MTV rotation this year with "Weapon of Choice," his collaboration with Fatboy Slim. The two also have a song, "Illuminati," on the "Lara Croft Tomb Raider" soundtrack. Bootsy is also featured in the current '70s-themed Nike campaign. The ESPY Awards 10th anniversary show will air on ESPN live from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on July 10 at 9 p.m. ET. test | |
