Thanks 4 the link 2 the article, that was very enjoyable reading...Eos Goddess of the Dawn calls the record industry "racist" are u gonna get on my case now??? Historically the entertainment industry period is "racist" and "sexist"...so what's the big deal that Michael is speaking the truth??? oh, but then "Prince" is the "only" one who can do that right???

What about all these white artists that are taking on the industry right now??? The bottom line is that the music industry is "pimping" artists, and if not 4 Prince taking the lead, other artists wouldn't know that there is a better way...

"The singer's fans say Sony didn't do enough to launch the album. Others in the industry say sagging sales were indicative of Jackson's declining appeal."

so MJ chooses to play the race card...just like so many others choose to make controversial declarations (Ellen Degeneres-"i got cancelled because i'm a lesbian." no, you got cancelled because your show's not funny, see also Margaret Cho, Steve Harvey...)

MJ needs to realize the 80's are over and he hasn't changed with the times. Madonna figured it out, MJ can't. but then Madonna's not spending $60 million to make a crap record...

Hey Irish Echo...Do u know that all life has energy, and even when a person dies, his/her energy lives on...well 4 that reason, I really feel that u should take another look at the "avatar" u are using, cuz Malcolm's energy doesn't really go with the words that u are saying.

Now if u were talking about the liberation of humanity "By any means necessary" Then maybe I could understand, but when u are talking shit about Prince stating his views about Abraham Lincoln as a "black man" who grew up during "Jim Crow", then I think u are out of your league.

Perhaps Homer Simpson would be a better choice...

Wow Michael I'm beginning to really like this new side of you. I loved when you did Thriller and when you did Black and White and when you got mad and smashed the car up kinda like Prince in Purple Rain busting up his Mums sauce jars with a bat. It's about time Michael would start showing us a different side of his personality. I was always a fan. Michael's cool if he gets to do it his way. I like it when you get wild Michael it's so refreshing.

Well all I can say 2 that is...Walk a mile in his shoes...

I can tell already that this is going 2 turn into a big "race" issue. Cuz with Johnnie Cochran on board, (Lead attorney in the reparations case 4 blacks) and Al Sharpton (outspoken leader 4 civil rights and reparations) plus the upcoming march on Washington D.C 4 Reparations.. This whole thing is going to turn into something "bigger" than Michael,

it's gonna turn into an opportunity for black people 2 come together and show the world why we are still so "pissed off" about slavery and being 2nd class citizens.

If u watch the movie remember the Titans, it was set in the "early 70's" and white folks were still protesting integration.(so let's not get into the slavery debate, Jim Crow was in America's most "Recent history, I've heard stories from my father, who was almost lynched in these great united states)

.So yes, discrimination still leaves a bad taste in the mouths of black people, Slavery was a long time ago, but racism is still alive and well, and maybe Michael speakng out now is a culmination of the racism he's faced since being born, maybe this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I dunno, but I do know that this is gonna get black people worked up and most black people will look beyond Michael's past and see an "opportunity" to gain some respect for ourselves in this racist industry...so buckle your seat belts..the journey has just begun.

*** Jackson arrived at the Midtown building on a double-decker city tour bus that twice circled the block. He stood in the open top deck and, raising his fists, joined the crowd in chanting "Down with Tommy Mottola!"

Jackson held up a poster with three boxes marked "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" - with an image of himself in the "The Good" box and Mottola's face with devilish horns in "The Bad" box, while Mottola's real image adorned "The Ugly" box. ***

Jackson: Recording Industry Racist
Sat Jul 6, 7:22 PM ET
By VERENA DOBNIK, Associated Press Writer

Multiplatinum singer Michael Jackson, already feuding with his record company, charged Saturday that the recording industry was a racist conspiracy that turns profits at the expense of performers — particularly minority artists.

"The recording companies really, really do conspire against the artists — they steal, they cheat, they do everything they can," Jackson said in a rare public appearance. "(Especially) against the black artists."

Jackson, 43, who began his recording career as a child, spoke at the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network in Harlem. Sharpton and attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. recently formed a coalition to investigate whether artists are being financially exploited by record labels.

Jackson, who records for Sony Music, also singled out company chairman Tommy Mottola, saying he was "mean, he's a racist, and he's very, very, very devilish." Jackson also accused Mottola of using "the n-word" when speaking about an unidentified black Sony artist.

Sony Music issued a statement calling Jackson's comments "ludicrous, spiteful and hurtful. It seems particularly bizarre that he has chosen to launch an unwarranted and ugly attack on an executive who has championed his career ... for many, many years."

Jackson's last album, "Invincible," has had disappointing sales despite an estimated $25 million in promotion. The singer's fans say Sony didn't do enough to launch the album. Others in the industry say sagging sales were indicative of Jackson's declining appeal.

Jackson mentioned several black artists as victims of the industry, including James Brown, Mariah Carey and Sammy Davis Jr. Jackson alleged that Davis died penniless, although Davis' attorney said in 1990 that the "Rat Pack" member left an estate worth more than $6 million when he died.

"If you fight for me, you're fighting for all black people, dead and alive," Jackson said, adding: "We have to put a stop to this incredible injustice."

Outside Sony's Manhattan headquarters, about 150 fans gathered later Saturday, hoisting signs reading "Please Sony, stop killing the music," "Terminate Tommy Mottola," and "Invincible is Unbreakable."

although i agree with mj telling the world of the evils of a recording industry and is helping out future stars; he is acting a bit immature. i know if i was michael i too would mr.sony a devil but the boxes are riduculous.( he's been in this business as a kid, so he knows all the rules by now.)

i am very happy to know mj is sticking up for other artists finallicly although he is already a billionaire. mj is going all out to harm sony.

i was thinking about madonna and mj today in the food store. madonna wised up and started going for a spirtual apporoach to her image, and he it got her respected. she now sells what today's pop artists sell but she in no longer threating. mj on the other hand, wants him to be the king and on top forever. he is asking for credit and respect sad. today in a store i went to which is much like target; all they played was songs of mj. from invincible, thriller, dangerous, jacksons, jackson 5; he has a beautiful gift for music. he knows how to get his emotions to bring out the best music, etc.

invincible was a good album but sony really didn't promate his album. that's the problem. i remember how most of the kids in my school were singing songs from the invincible album and ppl. were wanting certain songs to be singles. a store near my house played songs like the lost children! and other songs from the new album. but nothing happened. something is up guys!! invincible is the first album by mj in which mj doesn't rule. thriller was the best selling album. bad was the best selling album of the year he released it and so was dangerous (which sold more than bad). history was the best selling double album and botdf(remix album) is the best selling remix album. invincible has no claim. unlike his past albums; they was only ONE VIDEO IN THE USA AND 2 VIDEOS:rock my world, and cry in europe and mj wasn't even in cry!!! there was also no promation for cry. mj boycotted the grammys. nothing spectacular happened! no tour,no new videos, nothing.something isn't right and since it was mj who suffered sony's backlash; mj is figthing them.

if today's pop acts are selling based alone on image and decent music. they make decent music and they get promated like crazy. mj should be able to sell more since his music is so beautiful and very amazing. invincible was not his best album but it was very good. but he wasn't promated. he sold 7-8 million w/ the lackluster promation he got. it justs shows how strong his fan base is.

No wonder... Salon.Com reported a few weeks back that he is heavily in debt with Sony and will remain so for a long time. He just left the label with no rights to his own music. As for his share of the Beatles, I'm not sure but it was to half of it and apparently he borrowed heavily against it. I don't know if he was ever offered ownership of his masters, but it's hard to believe it wasn't an achievable goal for a star of his magnitude a few years ago. Did he sacrifice this to secure what he thought was a better deal financially? In any case, his whole career is suddently melting -- this is an act that was taken seriously enough to invest 25 million dollars in promotion just a couple of months ago. But Micheal spent an incredible amount of money making Invicible... Normally, this comes out of his own royalties.. and he spent over 30 million dollars.

Good Article Thanks for the Paste!!

The ONLY thing the Music Industry sees is GREEN!! they can care less..

MJ makes it sound like Hall & Oats, Pearl Jam, Kenny Rogers & Korn ALL have Billions!!! and EVERY Black or Female Artist is BROKE and make PENNYS??

PLEASE..

EVERY Musican makes NO money

* Why dont we ask Michael Jackson what he think about "His Father Figure" Barry Gordie Head of Motown

Gordie SCREWED everyone of his Motown Artist.. the same way every other record label has done to their artist!

*There is Tons & Tons of Books by old Motown acts complaining about being totally RAPED by Motown,, out of money, publishing, ect.

He left him because of this and went to Epic! Him & his Brothers became "The Jacksons"..

This guy is a TRUE MORON!

fonkywonder

Even though I commend MJ for telling it like it is (its a well known practice for decades greedy record labels have RIPPPED off their aritsts, especially those in a minority look what happened to TLC and Toni Braxton....they made millions...yet they filed for bankrupcy!, even Motown was shonky hence the mass exodus from Marvin to the Jackson 5)...but unless he gets support etc the media is going to rip him apart, expect this type of shit to come out next week:

1. How can MJ support black peformers when he ain't black no more!
2. SONY supported him during the allegations in 93, so he acting like a spoilt ungrateful brat!
3. He has made millions out of owning the Beatles etc catalogues, so how can he fight for artists rights?
4. He is a hasbeen and his blaming everyone else for his declime, but himself.

If you had asked me this time last year if anything like this was gonna happen...I'd say u were dreaming. Either MJ is gonna come out on top or he is going to end up like Prince and be ostricised from the industry! Lets face the facts here...NO ONE took Prince's stance against Warners seriously (especially that parashute speech during the Soul Train awards a couple of years ago!) cause like MJ they see that he was kicking up a stink cause he's weird and doesn't have it" anymore.

IMO what MJ, Prince and alot of other artists have to do is band together and form a union or something like that that can be used to protect ALL performers from getting ripped-off....like they do for actors etc. Otherwise MJ etc are just gonna be another statistic!

Hmmm...
