"black cars" is killer even if its so damn dated. The DMX is all over it. The extended version is even better. "black cars" (the song) is sorta what bowie would sound like, if he went harder on the synths. On a bowie note, the nice "just a motion away" is similar territory too.

Gino has a good voice, but "black cars" as an album, is pretty samey and not well fleshed out. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing

Pretty essential for mid 80's pop lovers.

I had no idea he made albums in the 70's?

I got 2 other albums by him, 1987's "big dreamers never sleep" and 90's "inconsolable man".

"big dreamers never sleep" is still full of synths, but it is still a good artifact of somewhat forgotten 80's pop. "in the name of money" is so 80's even the subject is. Its the perfect aerobics sounding song. Cool lyrics too.

"inconsolable man" is unlike his other 2 albums, as the songs are less samey then the other 2. Lush power ballads are here aswell, highlight like the anti drug "the time of day" (which is stunning production wise and speaks to a ex regular drug abuser like me very well) and the rnb "rhythm of romance" are great songs. "shame" is kinda odd for him, as he addresses incest between father and daughter, and its quite emotional. The middle 8 can send shivers down my spine

"so young, but so old, so hard to find a friend.
she goes from lover to lover, 'til theres nothing left of her
yeah sweet daddy scores again"

Chorus has a gospel vibe too.

Whole album is lovely production wise. Alot less harsh and digital, compared to "big dreamers never sleep" and "black cars". "sunset from l.a" is a gorgeous midtempo too. Whilst the sad "the jokers wild" is gino singing a simple lil' story.

I think alot of people here would like gino. Iam particually found of "inconsolable man". Surprised no orger ever mentions him or even "black cars".

Whoops, that what i meant, the album is chock full of yahama's infamous DX7. I know u may shoot me for saying this, but glenn medeiros' 1990 album is full of garish synth brass and DX7 vibes all the way through.
