it's not all that recent, but most of boy george's "martyr mantras" album sounds WAY like prince, and duran duran's "wedding album" (the one with "ordinary world") has a lot of prince-inspired stuff on it too.

Janet :: Just A Little While (2004)

Has that whole funkabilly vibe and even the lyrics are suggestive and borderline blasphemous like "Dirty Mind"-era Prince.

Karl Wallinger could sound very much like ATWIAD/Parade era Prince sometimes, especially when he slid into a falsetto during a slower number. He always mentioned that he was a Prince fan in his interviews, and I think that really shows up in his music.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but I think I can hear elements of Prince in some of Todd Rundgren's seventies albums, especially on Hermit of Mink Hollow and Something/Anything. That might be a bit of a stretch, I guess...

It probably because of the voice. When I heard the song in spring 1996, I thought it was a Prince until my little sister told me it was Case.

Wow. Really? I can't see how anyone can confuse P's voice with Case's voice.

it's mine too!

Interesting that you don't think of it as Princey. I was forcing a good friend of mine to listen to it back in the day as I went on and on and on about how much I loved it. His response was "Of course you do, it sounds like a Prince song"

lol

I dunno man why I thought Tease Me was sung by Prince. Maybe because I was thinking of the way how Prince sung Dinner With Delores which irontically my station also played around that same time. wink
Still, I think Prince can also wrote a song like Tease me. That is really what is the title of the thread is of songs that Prince could have written. biggrin

Not vocally, but lyrically Musiq's Whoknows song is straight Prince.

Yeah, but even the lyrics don't scream out "Prince lyrics" ya know? They're pretty basic. wink

I once read this album review for Michael Jackson's "Blood On The Dance Floor" album that mentioned how the reviewer thought "Superfly Sister" sounded like a Prince song. I think that answers this question. cool

Beyond that, I think the Wendy and Lisa song "Waterfalls" sounds like something Prince could have written.

I love both the above songs music
