"I Think We're Alone Now" about premarital sex?

Exsqueeze me? Maybe it's because I don't really feel that premarital sex is wrong... but I never thought this song was "naughty" in the least.

Just saw it on a list of "20 songs parents hate"

I always figured that was the meaning. Not so shocking now, but when that song was originally written underaged/premarital sex was still pretty taboo.

And then it was supposedly offensive when Tiffany recorded it at age 16?

I can't believe anyone would think it was too sexy or taboo though.. especially by the time Tiffany recorded it.

Anyway, I opened a broader topic about songs your parents wouldn't appreciate:

When was this list done and what version were they referring to?

I'm guessing the original by...

...Tommy James & The Shondells didn't raise this much ire when it was released in the '60s.

Seems like they'd have been more pissed about their Hanky Panky release...
My baby does the hanky panky. sexy

The list was done last year, they mentioned the original, but it was Tiffany's version that got on the list because she was a 16 year old girl singing on it.

I remember ZERO controversy over that. Other than the fact that people who knew the original thought she butchered it.

"Children behave"
That's what they say when we're together
"And watch what you play"
They don't understand

Definitely about pre-marital sex. I was in my 'formative' years when the song was popular and having sex with your boy/girl friend was a no-no. hmph!
Fortunately the world and its mores have worked past it and faced what is real....
I loved that song when I was a kid....I did not have a boyfriend, but did have a special someone of a different race - not very well accepted back then!

kisses
I have not heard Tiffany's version, but I suspect she butchered it. machinegun
Thanks for bring that song up.....I have enjoyed thinking about it! biggrin
