George Cole posts exclusive interview with Alan Leeds This was posted on the Miles Davis listserv by George Cole, author of THE LAST MILES.
Hi,
Just to let you know that my interview with Alan Leeds - Prince's ex-road manager and the man who brought Miles and Prince together - is now up on my website, The Last Miles.com. Warning, it's a long one (more than 7000 words!) but it's well worth the time because Alan is a fascinating guy to talk you and has lots of new things to say about the Miles/Prince relationship. What's frustrating when you read it is how close Miles and Prince came to actively working together, either collaborating in the studio on an album or playing live on-stage (the latter only happened once). Alan also talks about a new song that Prince recorded using samples of Miles's trumpet, why "Can I Play With U?" was dropped from the Tutu album and questions whether they were ever actually in a studio together, despite Prince claiming that this had happened. Also interesting to see that during the Doo-Bop sessions, Miles wanted to cover a Prince song that could have become the successor to "Time After Time" (I'll let you read that bit for yourself!). Anyway, the interview is at http://thelastmiles.com/i...-leeds.php I hope you find it as interesting as I did. Best wishes, Info on George Cole and his book is available at http://thelastmiles.com/. The book is highly recommended for those wanting more info on the final period of Miles' life. Lots of exclusive insight and first-hand interviews. test | |
