"tell me something good" & "it keeps you runnin"..

Is it only me..
Or are these 2 songs very similar??

I know that tell me something good came out 1st,
& that makes me wonder if this song was an influence or an inspiration for Michael (&/or the Doobies) to do their own "version" of tmsg - it keeps you runnin’

to me both songs are similar, mainly for the prominence of the keyboard/synth/clavinet layers

both songs are somewhere between "slow" & "mid-tempo", with ikyr sounding a little faster

while the lyrical content of each song is different - the assured sexual prowess of tmsg vs the reconcilatory, everything’s-gonna-be-alright tone of ikyr - both songs have a simple/repetative chorus

strangely enough, between these 2 songs, I think tmsg "rocks" more than ikyr..!

I love both songs, but if I had to choose 1 over the other I would choose
It keeps you runnin’
Only because I prefer the ("layered") synth/clavinet lines in that song

so does anyone know the real story behind either of these songs?? or if, in fact ikyr was a direct "copy" of tmsg??

do you think the songs are similar?? Do you prefer 1 over the other.. & if so, why??
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
