Just curious, how many here have listened to one of the actual albums by The Darkness, the whole albums not the singles/videos? Because they do have serious material and hooks other bands would kill for. The newer record is killer. Maybe the packaging of the band is tongue and cheek, but they just don't take themselves that seriously in that regards. But musically they are solid. I find that most people who diss them do so only based on one or two songs they've heard or the video for "Thing Called Love". Just curious where you guys were all coming from.

Considering everything I've heard by either Bon Jovi or The Darkness came from either MTV, VH1 or Howard Stern, if I had to pick one over the other, I'd pick The Darknes without hesitation. Both bands play in a rock style I avoid, but BJ bores the crap out of me. TD, at least looks like a lot of fun.

I'm sure both bands will pull in an overabundance of hot WGs. eek

i had the darkness's first album for a while, but then i sold it. i didn't mind the musicianship, but there's no way i could listen to that lead singer on a regular basis. i didn't like his voice. plus i don't like their schtick.

I'm surprised Jovi talked that kind of shit in the press. I mean, if u don't like another artist, then don't like it. But if u were cool, u would definately shut the fuck up about it. Don't show your ass over it. It comes off like you're on a jealous trip. And I'm strictly speaking in general. Now, Jovi had his day in the sun. I like a few of their songs. The Darkness are good musicians. Overall, as musicians, they run circles around Bon Jovi. As far as the vocals, homeboy is on Freddie Mercury's bandwagon. And he needs to get off it. Obviously Queen is a major influence and that's cool but he needs to get his own vocal style or borrow from someone else and mix it up some. I give it to them for trying to bring real guitar solos and flash and FUN back to this jaded ass rock state though.

heh the sun hasnt set yet Bon Jovi's latest is over 1 Million sold and has entered back in the top 40 album chart this week smile but how can u say that a band that has been around for a few short years like The Darkness are better musicians than a group that has been around about 23 years and could be headed for the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame?

It's sad to see that you your opinions are shaped by sales and the pointless, irrelevant media wankfest known as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

As for Bon Jovi, what a freakin' hypocrite. In my opinion, both bands are nothing more than coma inducing Spinal Tap-esque clowns who are afraid to shy away from their formulaic brand of music.

Who gives a rat's ass about such figures? Funny how we all say how meaningless they are but when they seem to prove an opinion we have about a band we like, they're not so meaningless anymore.
I'm totally woth blackguitaristz, you just don't talk shit about others when you got style. Ever seen/heard Prince badmouth others in public?

Besides, Bon Jovi's singles sure suck ass nowadays, IMO, so...
