Bon Jovi slams The Darkness

American rocker Jon Bon Jovi has launched a scathing attack on The Darkness, likening the British band to spoof group Spinal Tap.

The Bon Jovi frontman, 43, is amazed The Darkness take themselves seriously as rockers, because he thought they were a fake glam rock band.

He says: "I hate The Darkness. I don't understand it. I know they are huge (in the UK), but I never really got it.

"It's just Spinal Tap isn't it? It's just a lark. I'm not sure they think so, though. I think they take it seriously. They made a little splash in the US but, man… I don't get it at all."

Bon Jovi has been one of the most successful bands of all time and get more and more popular each year as evidenced by their 2 sellouts here in town.

i liked them at 1st because i wanted to see that kind of music make a comeback but instead i think they were just mocking the genre of hair metal/glam i think if they would have been more serious they would have more than just that one hit here in the U.S

Well i have to stick up for jon in this case, regardless of what u think of him or his band. Im sick of these artists like The Darkness, The killers, and others like them that just are "biting" what came before them. The Darkness are nothing more than a wannabe Queen cover band, awful. I thought they were a goof too, but they are still recording, but there time is almost up so dont fear. It seems that once every other week there is a new band and Rolling Stone or Q magazine are calling them the greatest band ever, and they usually are nothing more than a rip off of what came before them. And while we are on the subject of Music, whats up with this new wave of male vocalists like James Blunt, Jack Johnson, why are they popular can someone tell me???? Can anyone tell the difference between Jack Johnson songs???? Someone the other day was bitching about Manilow being in the Top 10, shit I would Take Manilow music 24/7 over Jack Johnson anyday, every song this guy is on the beach....Even the Beach Boys got off the damn beach once in a while and recorded something different.

Poor Jon Bon...he must be entering a hormonal midlife crisis. He took a shot at Axl this week too.

Contact Music reports: JON BON JOVI is disgusted rock rival AXL ROSE receives more media attention than he does, because the reclusive GUNS N' ROSES frontman "hasn't made a record in 13 years". He says, "You know what p**ses me off? I was reading this British rock magazine this month and there was a story about Axl Rose and the $13 million Guns N' Roses record that was never made. "That motherf**ker hasn't made a record in 13 years and he gets all that attention. You know what I've done in 13 years? A lot. But they have continued to write about the freak show aspect of him. Because he's a recluse. That makes him interesting, right?" [No Jon, he doesn't make Prom music; that makes him interesting] -

Axl had vision???? Sorry but that band just burnt out, 2 great albums and that was it, then they turned into what they were rebelling against so to speak. Once again we give praise where it isnt deserved, usually we give it to people who die before their time, in that case Falco was a freakin Genius!

I'm sorry i couldn agree with my Jovi if the darkness only had their first album out, but their newest joint has so killer hooks and some amazing bass, I think Bon Jovi is just jealous that their music is just far better than his new shit.....cus frankly "have a nice day" or what ever its called was a joke, anyway thats just me biggrin
Bon jovi should'a gave up in the early 90's. cause its only 40 year old men stuck in a time warp that listen to their shit.....

writing this with a hang over eek

i don't like the darkness because i think their whole schtick is passive-aggressive. they're kinda serious, kinda parody. ween can get away with that kind of thing because their ideas are original, and when they're ripping on certain styles of music, it's pretty clear what they're conveying. but with the darkness, it's like they won't pick a side. the performer should never use their art to get the last laugh. performing is about letting the audience at least FEEL like they have the last laugh.

and i don't like the lead singer's voice. kinda reedy for my tastes. shrug

I like about half of The Darkness' songs, and the other half are cringe-worthy. I do have a video though of them doing "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" live at Glastonbury I believe, and it really kicks ass. nod
