I ADORE the Dixie Chicks.
I appreciate the fact that they are modern ,cosmopolitan and irreverent, yet have the abilty to stay authentic and true to their creative and cultural roots in traditional country, Bluegrass, etc... They are especially good, if not better, when experienced live because these ladies are straight, hardcore virtuosos. And their band members are always top notch as well. I was very disappointed when the American public reacted the way they did to The Dixie Chicks' anti-Bush statements at the dawn of the Iraq War:not only did they get boycotted, have their cds steamrolled in the streets, but these young women, all of whom are mothers of very small children, got NONSTOP DEATH THREATS aginst them and their babies...just for expressing an opinion...that was really scary and a throwback to McCarthy era blacklisting for me. I'm gladthat they didn't just crawloff the face of the planet as a result...they're a worthwhile group to me, for both country music and women, imo...

I liked their lst CD, because it sounded (finally!) like real country music. I wasn't interested in any of their other albums. Too bland for me.

I have always liked the Dixie Chicks. They have more BALLS than any other country singer out there especially that lame Toby Keith. They are probably one of the only "recent" country groups that I really enjoy. I saw them live a couple of years ago and they were phenomenal. They really won me over when they spoke the truth about Bush and thos dumb hick stations wouldn't play them. By the way, there were 300,000 missing ballots from the last election in OHIO. This is the state that tipped the scale towards that goofball that we now call President. 38% approval rating? How can 38% of America be so stupid?
By the way has anyone heard Merle Haggards new song, blasting Bush's policies? Crazy considering that he wrote an anti-protest song during the Vietnam war. Very good lyrics on this one. Any way, I am not a huge country fan, but love the Chicks and the other"outlaw" country singers. Willie, Johnny, Waylon, Merle. Yes, they are outlaws!

Always one to bring pleasantries into the conversation... Hah. Sorry, couldn't resist. It's just a classic response from another board I frequently visit. I admit, it's definitely out of line, but what the hell.
