Please tell me someone knows this guy The guy I'm talking about is singer/songwriter Rachid. His debut, Prototype, was released in 1998 and was fantastic! It's heavily influenced by Prince as well as most everyhing from soul to rock to trip-hop.
Unfortunately, it fell on deaf ears. I'd love to know more about Rachid and if he's still working on music, but I can't find anyone whose even heard of him. Can someone help me out?

Yep, I'm inclined to agree...the single "Pride" was nice as is the opener "Charade"..after that, don't remember much except that there is a song on here about going to a sperm bank! Wow, I'm kinda surprised the album isn't a little more well received. It sounds like noone else thinks it's great besides me? Maybe that's why Rachid is still a virtual unknown
At the very least, ya'll gotta like the very Princely "Zoe's World", right?

I have Prototype and still listen to it all the time. It was my favorite of '98, even more than Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I love that cd and mention it from time to time on other music forums. Last I heard, he appeared on a Kool & The Gang album a couple years back. [Edited 3/1/06 15:31pm]

At the very least, ya'll gotta like the very Princely "Zoe's World", right? You're not the only one. I can't believe someone actually posted about him. I freakin love his album. I played it non-stop when I first got it. I left the CD at a friends a long time ago and haven't seen it since. Still got the case and inserts just no CD. Whoever found it for a dollar, that's a steal. Don't want it I'll gladly take it. I've been wanting to hear that CD for quite some time. It's got some deep heavy lyrics on it. And unpredictable music. Can't say enough good things about this CD. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I'd check out the Family Stand instead. They are the better neo-soul band that went nowhere. All you others say Hell Yea!!

Not instead, in addition too. Family Stand is also very cool. Check out Moon in Scorpio. That album has a lot of rock and not just retro soul on it. I don't consider Rachid neo-soul. He was more like alternative soul, for lack of a better term. Kinda how Maxwell's Embrya wasn't exactly neo-soul. Rachid though was far more darker. Seek both out Rachid - Prototype Family Stand - Moon in Scorpio Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

LOL! Saying The Family Stand was Neo Soul is like saying Prince is TALL. "Free yo mind and yo ass will follow" - George Clinton

Hammers lyrics are worse then marky marks. Yeah, that makes sense: Base ALL Neo Soul off the LITTLE you've heard. Smart man. And by saying Hammer's lyrics are worse than Marky Mark's is saying exactly what? That it's better to get killed by a bullet to the front of the head than a bullet to the back? "uh oh, uh oh, here comes the hammer". That had a good james brown samplin' remix. And as i have stated, as shit as he may be, he only comprimized his sound to go gangster in 94, and by then, his flow improved, and i got black people onto "pumps and a bump", without saying it was hammer, and they cant front now.

I hope that we get to hear something else from rachid one day.
