It's time for yet ANOTHER Full Force thread (their website)

falloff

Man, y'all know I love deez cats. They've inspired me musically and vocally as much as Prince, MJ, Stevie, and Roger Troutman.

The videos are just...ahight. They should've included "Quickie" and some tv appearances. Also check out some scenes from House Party, where Lou just wanted to "kick some f*cking ass, not burning people up."

I need to get hip to some more Full Force material one day. I really enjoyed the material they made for Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, and I loved their collaboration with The Real Roxanne on "Bang Zoom (Let's Go Go)" [probably one of my favorite hip hop/go-go tracks of all-time], but I haven't taken the proper time to really examine their repertoire.

Anyone care to offer lists of essential Full Force productions for future reference?

They're the true architects of New Jack Swing, do disrepect to Mr. Riley.
As for you getting more familiar with their sound, you're already really enjoying the 20th Anniversary of the Control lp. lol That's a good enuff start. Jam and Lewis were hella influenced by FF when they were taking the Minneapolis Sound in a different direction and "Control" sounds like an aborted lp by Lisa Lisa and The Cult Jam.. As I've stated, N.E's "Can You Stand The Rain" sound a lot like FF's "All In My Mind". confuse Or maybe "All In My mInd" sounds like J&L's "Tender Love"?

Ah, c'mon, Jam & Lewis were more innovative than that. razz I know J&L were taking cues from Teddy Riley and other folk when they produced Rhythm Nation 1814, but Control was more of a post-Time/MinneFunk flavoured set.

But I do hear some Full Force influences in "The Pleasure Principle" but that was a Monte Moir production.

I wonder If I Take You Home inspired J&T to write "I'd Rather Spend The Bad Times With You (Than Spend The Good Times With Someone New)" by Thelma Houston.

Full Force's sound was hott, especially on Lisa Lisa's albums. Their production was almost 2 hott but perfect for the era. Sounds like "You Never Change" by lisa Lisa, I Promise You, and Can U Feel The Beat were almost experimental.

A Standout UNDERRATED track by them is "Black Radio" where they jammin over this FUNKY ass thumpin breakbeat about how black artists tend to sell themselves out to be #1 and forget their roots.

I can upload it if u wanna hear the track its HOT. (Off their album "Guess Who's Comin To The Crib".
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Innovation has nothing to do with it. We all are influenced by something/somebody. J&L were digging Full Force and their sound and J&L have even said so. I said in my post that they kept it Minneapolis, but they added New Jack elements that FF had laid down the year prior. Nothing wrong with that.

Two months ago you left me for another man
It was so unexpected, you never showed your hand
And now you wanna come back, you wanna come back home
After all those lonely days I was all alone
It was all in my miiiiind

I have all Full Force albums and lots of their outside productions, absolutely looooove them. but James Brown "I'm real" is still their masterpiece. the Gofather didn't release anything as tight within almost 30 years

hmmm the cover picture on my album copy is different, probably the European version?

Yeah, JB is the original hip-hop artist. lol FF knew that when they took him in the studio and laid down this lp. This lp serves as an example of why I wish Prince would work with young and happenin producers that know and understand him. Although this JB lp was hip and modern, it was also vintage Godfather.

I was a huge Full Force fan back in the day and had almost everything they ever did. Here is your essential list in order of importance:

FULL FORCE:
Full Force Get Busy 1 Time LP
Guess Who's Comin To The Crib LP
Smoove LP

LISA LISA AND CULT JAM:
Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam with Full Force LP
Spanish Fly LP

JAMES BROWN:
I'm Real LP

CHERY PEPSII RILEY:
Me Myself And I LP

EX-GIRLFRIEND:
X- Marks The Spot LP

SAMANTHA FOX:
Naughty Girls single
I Wanna Have Some Fun single

LA LA:
(If You) Love Me Just A Little single
My Love Is On The Money single

JASMINE GUY:
Try Me single

THE WEATHER GIRLS:
Land Of The Believer single

UTFO were also part of the Full Force family, but I'm not really sure how much of a hand FF had in producing their albums. Their self-titled first album was their best.

Only all of them, up until the 90's. So I would add UTFO and the FF lp's you didn't include to your otherwise perfect list.

Sittin home all alone...by the phone
And waitin for you to call, but you don't call
Sittin in my boxer shorts lonely and
Visions of your loveliness makes me *** my hand

I don't think every FF album is great. Their first album is okay, but not as good as the three I listed.

Their website says FF produced all the UTFO albums, but I still think they had more of an executive-producer role. I can't really prove it at this point though.

still, don't sleep on this one:

that also shouldn't be missing in any FF related collection, many hip dance beats and funk groovers, a cameo appearance by Bobby Byrd and as the icing on the cake the excellent reworking of Prince/the Time "Girl" (I'm listening right now music )

Then you've never really paid attention to UTFO because FF's sound, style and vocals are all over UTFO's tracks...a la Prince to the Time.

UTFO was one of my favorite rap groups and I had their first three albums. I still think their sound wasn't as pure Full Force as their other projects.

nod "Party Time" was fabuloso, too. I remember it was loosely covered in Tracey Lee's "The Theme (It's Party Time)" in '97.
