WHEN I WAS A CHILD I WAS OBSESSED WITH:

Madonna :: Who's That Girl (this song reminds me of childhood! Weekend mornings watching MTV eating chicken McNuggets! HA!)
Paula Abdul :: Cold Hearted (Paula was so ill to me circa 1989-92)
Pebbles :: Mercedes Boy (Ok, I was singing this at 5, no lie!)
Janet :: Escapade (OK, this sounds crazy, but I remember standing outside of our house in the rain dancing to this song in my mind in front of an imaginary audience)
Madonna :: Oh Father (I remember this was my "sad song" as a child. I remember it was partly cloudy and sort of rainy and I was singing this song while playing in the front yard)
Janet :: Rhythm Nation (and the entire project. I used to watch the Rhythm Nation VHS movie ad naseum trying to learn to choreography)
REM :: Stand (this song reminds me of when my older sister would drop by the house)

There's so much more! But these immediately sprang to mind!

Madonna :: VOGUE
This used to be my song. Me and my brother used to watch this on MTV and I would vogue in the living room while this video played on TV. This was around the time the Dick Tracy movie came out. I remember all the cool kids who saw the film had that free black T-shirt you got when you bought an admission ticket. I was so jealous of them. lol

That's just clash of the fanbases, it really has nothing to do with one another's music. I find JANFAN has very diverse tastes.

Oh lordy, this pretty much sums up my childhood. Though it was way before my time, my parents played the Beatles all the time. Specifically Yellow Submarine. And i remember watching the movie "Help" that we had recorded on tape.

I think one of the most unsettling discoveries of this whole "internet thing" was finding out that as a fan of one artist you had to "choose sides" and *not like* certain artists. I'll be d*mned if I have to choose who I listen to in order to be in allegiance with some b*tch-made nonsense. This is not gang warfare. This is not Bloods and Crips. I don't have to choose sides and, sadly, what a lot of people don't choose to remember on the Org is that I NEVER CHOSE SIDES TO BEGIN WITH -- it's like people did that for me on this forum, made ASSumptions about me based on my screenname and I was just left in the dust. I was one of the main advocates AGAINST all that tit-for-tat Jan/Mad/Mariah bulls**t... and I've never been with it.

That's one of the main reasons why I take long, silent breaks from pop music message boards -- I like to listen to music without PREJUDICE.

ANYTHING by Jody Watley.....my god I was obsessed with her. I had these black biker shorts that I called my "Jody Watley" pants. giggle I don't really have obsessions like that anymore....thank god.....it's not healthy. lol Funny thing about it is that I haven't listened to her music in years. She was the only artist that I was just crazy about back then. Other than her....I liked pretty much anything that was popular at the time....mixed in with some songs my parents used to play a lot. My aunt was obsessed with Tracy Chapman, so I heard some of her stuff when I was little. I can't even listen to "Fast Car" anymore because of it. lol My mom and aunt wore Sade out too.....and the weird thing about it is that I didn't really get it back then.....now Sade's one of my favorites. "Batdance" brings back some funny memories too.
