Nick Rhodes Let's pay tribute to this "young man of extraordinary personal beauty..." *
Oh yes, and those keys... ... those gorgeous, epic, majestic keys, the basis of all things Duran... * Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

I love his way of thinking in terms of music,
& how he comes up with the beautiful soundscapes. Very colorful! Vina Blue made me a really cool cd with her favourite stuff. /peace Manki

I admit it, back when I was in high school I thought all of DD were cuties, esp. Nick!! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

I'm rather re-captivated, at this moment, in general by his work on Seven and the Ragged Tiger and Notorious.

Did you have them pinned-up in your locker? A little project I'm getting together is to find my old high school pin-ups on the internet... I found some of them at my parents' house and brought them back home with me, and of course they burned up in the fire a few weeks ago... I had taken them to illustrate certain points about New Romantic dandyism. I have a whole file on Nick Rhodes, to say the least!

Whereas Simon is the heart of Duran Duran, Nick is most definitely its soul. His aesthetics and soundscapes are such an integral part of everything that is Duran Duran.
I actually became a rabid Duranie after hearing the Arcadia album, which realy showcased Nick's abilities to create sonic worlds and lush arrangements that really weren't typical of keyboard driven music in the 80s. I liked Duran Duran prior to this, but So Red The Rose really showed me how talented they were. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Tiger Tiger and extended versions of Notorious are standouts for me. Tiger Tiger is one I must pick apart for my essay... What is up with them and the tiger, I wonder? They have a bit of a Japanese motif going on, on their album cover...

Hopefully, Crapitol/EMI will get around to remastering SRTR like they did Power Station last year. For that matter, they need to get off their duffs and remaster Notorious and Big Thing as well Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. Has anybody heard of David Sylvian from the band Japan? Nick was HUGELY influenced by David. He patterned his look off of him big time. I got hip to the band Japan from a girl I was dating in Jr. High. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Err, I totally know where you are coming from but just the same, I take this with a grain of salt, given that Nick admits to being obsessed with aesthetics from the age of 10 or so. And started dying his hair not long afterwards. I concede that Sylvian was an inspiration, but the reason the early D2 lineup liked Japan is because they resembled the NY Dolls. They were heavily, heavily into looks, moreso than they were into music. Like Byron, the look was a right accompaniment to their art - equally, if not a bit more important. Byron was, after all, the first English pin-up! (unless someone could come up with another example - I'd love to hear it...) There is much resemblance between the Max's Kansas City scene, which includes the Dolls, and the early New Romantic club scene at the Blitz, etc. Makes sense that Warhol was one of Rhodes major heros, given that he had much to do with the former scene.

Julie Anne? I just like the idea of Nick Rhodes marrying a nice Iowa girl. Midlands/Midwest - same difference.

Yeah. I dig Duran's early shit and was the only kid that I know of at the time when Duran first came out here in the States that knew they got their name from the Barberella flix. But I dug them, not cuz of their image but because they sounded like two bands that I dig; Chic and Roxy Music. With a little Bowie thrown in. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz.
