So, I finally checked out Lady Sovereign..... and she's no M.I.A , but I really like her music. She only has 8 songs on her album? that's pretty short. "Random", "ch-ching", "A Little bit of Shhh ", and "the Battle" really stand out.....oh wait that's half of the album I liked them after the first few listens She's definitely more humorous than M.I.A....and her flow is a hell of a lot faster. That other woman who rapped on The Battle is good too.....wonder if she has a solo album out. I saw Lady SOV on the covers of two different music magazines last week and thought she must really be something. Even though I still like M.I.A better, I think Lady SOV will be more successful....especially with her association with Jay-Z (*shudder*) and comparisons to Eminem (*shudder*) too. The only thing she has in common with Eminem though....I mean other than the obvious, is that they're both humorous. Vocally she is pretty close to M.I.A.....if M.I.A was a teen.

D*mm, y'all Brits are quick to call Lady Sov a chav in a minute...
Anyway, the Vertically Challenged EP is bumpin'. I suggest everyone check it out. There's a cool remix of "A Little Bit of Shh" by Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys. Oh yeah, and the tracks "Random (Original + Menta Mix)," "Ch Ching" and "Hoodie" are bangin'. If you dig this album, also check out Roll Deep. They make great grime music, too.

Hehe. Well, "Verticall Challenged" is an EP, not an LP. It was a way for her to sell records here in the U.S. after the great early buzz tracks like "Hoodie" and "Random" received from American music rags. She's definitely more humorous than M.I.A....and her flow is a hell of a lot faster. ... I think Lady SOV will be more successful....especially with her .... comparisons to Eminem (*shudder*) too. The only thing she has in common with Eminem though....I mean other than the obvious, is that they're both humorous.
If you think Lady Sov is humorous, then YOU MUST HEAR HER DISS OF POP STAR JENTINA. She mocked Jentina's Europop hit "Bad Ass Strippa" in a diss record called "SAD ARSE STRIPPA" (!!!) Oh my g*ddd, she was cappin' on Jentina through the whole thing. If you hear Jentina's original and then Lady Sov's right afterwards, you'd freak.

Yeah, pretty much she and The Streets have a lot in common -- they get a lot of buzz and love by the critics stateside, but in their nativeland they're cult figures and are largely seen as chavs.

O edit [Edited 2/21/06 0:50am] As far as UK material right now, I'm really diggin that new track by The Streets that just leaked on the net called "When You Wasn't Famous" from his forthcoming concept album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living. If you liked anything off his last LP, this is right up your alley. Plus, I'm really into Stuart Price's work. There's a great album I just purchased a while ago called Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales. It came out in '99, but it got a special 2005 double CD special edition release. And, man, it is up there among the best albums I've heard in years. If you heard Missy's "Lose Control" with Ciara, she actually sampled the vocal hook from Les Rythmes Digitales' song on that album titled "Music Makes You Lose Control."

Jentina sang "Mysterious" (which was a minor hit in the UK two years back). She's basically classified as UK Europop under the same umbrella as artists like Sugababes, Girls Aloud, Rachel Stevens, etc. Have you heard of Sugababes?
