Lenny Kravitz in Talks to Play Jim Hendrix

Rocker Lenny Kravitz is set to portray the late Jimi Hendrix, the most famous guitarist in rock history, in a biobic according to Roger Friedman of FOXNews.com.
Sources tell Friedman that Kravitz has secured the dramatic rights to Hendrix’s music through his estate, and that his plan is to make his acting debut with the independent film.
"Kravitz is a natural to play Hendrix," Friedman observed siting his looks and musical ability. He may have inheriting the acting gene from his mother, the late Roxie Roker, was a star of "The Jeffersons" on TV in the 1970s.
Lee Daniels, who directed the forthcoming "Shadowboxer" and produced "Monster’s Ball," is said to be the producer/director.
i agree i think he's the best choice to play the role...what do you think..

The Hendrix estate (Mainly Janie Hendrix) doesn't want Andre to play him. I'm sorry but I can't see Lenny playing him. If the Hendrix movie ever gets made (which I don't think it ever will..it's been in talk since 1982) they should get a unknown 24/25 year old.

i guess this is the same story from a couple of months ago (dat says November 29, 2005):
http://www.foxnews.com/st...88,00.html
haven't heard anything new since...
I wouldn't be too thrilled if this is true, I'd rather see an unknown actor than Lenny play the part.

I think Andre would have been perfect for this role.Plus,he can actually act.

AGREED. nod

lenny would ruin it. i think even andre would have ruined it. if it were 1982, i'd say laurence fishburne would be the perfect choice. but it's not 1982, and he's too old (and too pumped up) now for the role.

I also agree. In most cases, I think it's best to go with an unknown or lesser known actor for these iconic roles. It lessens the chances of seeing the actor in the role rather than the person they're portraying.

I agree with you guys as well. Just get a really good actor who can play.

Please edit this title to say "Jimi", Jim just bothers me to no end for some reason.

Lenny doesn't need anything else to make his head any bigger, more importantly what other acting gigs has he done?

Actually they've been rapping about this film since 78. But you're right. Janie, Jimi's sister, doesn't like Andre and thought he would be horrible (her words) to play Jimi. I never thought Andre was right for the role cuz he can't play guitar to save his life. That said, Lenny is a better choice between the two, BUT Lenny isn't right for the role either. True, Lenny is a real musician where as Andre is not. And yes, Lenny can play guitar, BUT Lenny is NOT a lead guitarist. And don't know if Lenny can act or not. Movie studios aren't going to go with an unknown unless he was a dead ringer for Jimi. This cat has to look, act and play like Jimi for studios to go with an unknown. Otherwise, their going to go with a known performer. That equals = Lenny.

Jimi was barely 5'11. Lenny's 6'1. Many folks thought Jimi was taller cuz he was so thin.

Lenny would never pull it off....I can't imagine him as big screen material playing anyone. I think they will have to get a no-name....

For Hendrix fans: I was in Target today and they have 5 different styles of mens Hendrix tee shirts....all really nice. Go check 'em out. target

Maybe they should take a look at this guy - http://www.myspace.com/ericgales

He's friendly with Janie Hendrix. Don't know about his acting chops, though.

if Pink can pull off Janis Joplin, im sure Lenny can do Jimi.
I actually thought Hendrixs family was wanting the full project to be canned so its good to see it might still happen.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
