Whatever happened to Terrence Trent D'Arby?

Terrence Trent D'arby was popular for a time with Sign your name and Delicate. He was talking about Prince in a documentary. What happened to him? Does he still record because I heard at one time he just couldn't get a label. Whatever happened ? He was a good singer and songwriter. It would be a shame to never hear from him again. TTD Where are You??? Somebody sign him!

He's gonna play live here in Rome, Italy on July 24th.
But I'll go to the Jamiroquai concert instead.

I always thought "Sign Your Name" and "Wishing Well" were fucking incredible when they came out. And TTD was so pretty...yet tried 2 b so hard...(leather jackets and motorcycles and all...heh heh).

Even Prince took a liking 2 him and per4med "Wishing Well" live once...(I always thought that one was pretty Prince inspired anyway).

I remember after his big debut, he sort of fizzled out with "Neither Flesh Nor Fish" (something like that), and I just read recently that he had a new one coming out. I haven't seen what he looks like lately...I wonder how he looks now? Hmmm.

TTD is alive and well..

he almost vanished from the public's eye after his debut album, although he had a few small hits (e.g. delicate, holding on to you).
his debut album, introducing the hardline from 1987, is a great pop album, but instead of cahing on on that one, TTD decided to let his artist's side speak out more and made a few great albums. he's a very spiritual guy 9maybe even more than Prince, believe it or not. he also changed his name: to Sananda Matreiya (or something like that), but on his albums he still uses the TTD name.

Introducing the Hardline (1987)
great pop songs, neo-soul, a bit slick.

Neither Fish nor flesh (1989)
very experimental, very layered music, nbot for everyone, but my favorite.

Symphony or Damn (1993)
much less experimental than the previous, but still a unique album with some amazing songs on it.

Vibrator (1995)
funky rock, mixed with gorgeous ballads. a wonderful album.

Wild Card (2001)
after a dispute with two record companies TTD was finally able to release this one. Many great songs, a return to pop. his voice is still sounding fantastic.

more info on his official site:
www.sananda.com
many unrealeased downloads and weird ponderings by TTD..

Symphony or Damn is one of my favorite albums of all time. TTD should be a much bigger artist than he currently is.

...come on, Jamiroquai hasn't made as much as one single original idea in it's lifetime. That band is a cold calculated disgrace to real music with soul and heart.

If you have the chance to go see TTD you should do it. He has some things on his mind and his music is indeed alive and original.

"Symphony or Danm" and "Vibrator" are both top class albums.

And yes, I've seen both acts live here in Copenhagen and TTD rocked and was just so much better than Jamiroquai with their lame hollow plastic music and that twat of a singer.

...said jalokin, the Danish geezer.

"Neither Fish Nor Flesh" has gorgeous cover art and is a really good album. Alot of the tracks have a classic soul sound to them which I really dig.

"Vibrator" is PHENOMENAL. I have no clue why this album hasn't at least achieved some kind of underground praise.

I totally agree.
I know he has a few fans here and there, but the brotha just won't tour the US anymore. I saw him in 95/96 and he was just incredible!!

A lot of people missed out on this beautiful talent, but i think he's content with not being in the spotlight. He could've been the next otis redding or sam cooke.

Re-check Neither Fish nor Flesh, some of the songs are a little pretentious, but for the most part, just a sweet album, esp "To love someone deeply is to love someone softly". That and a b-side of his: "Survivor" gives me chills.
Both these songs melt me.

peace

I recently purchased his latest CD from E-bay. It hasn't arrived yet..It's coming from Germany. Can't wait to check it out. It's not available in the U.S. from what I understand. On the new CD cover he looks just like he did in the 80's--no more short blonde fro.

positivity...if you go to his site, you can listen to the songs online--you may need to download the new realaudioplayer to hear it--i did and it sounds just great.

I think he added a couple of songs since he first had the
album free for download last year.

And in WILDCARD, there 's a "super goddess" (according to TTDA's words) who plays bass on a song called "sweetness": her name is Wendy Melvoin. Great song; great album; MUST HAVE.

Tom, I agree!!! Vibrator is "THA SHIT"!!! The jams Undeniably, If You Go Before Me, and It's Been Said are among the top masterpieces of this album!

And, as great as this album is, I still find myself listening more to Symphony or Damn, which is actually even better! Castilian Blue comes SO hard on that one!

TTD/Sananda SHOULD have more of a underground following, and he probably would if he'd get his butt in the US just a little more often!! I was hoping Prince would've invited him to the Celebration this year!
