VH1 Classic one hit wonders weekend! VH1 CLASSIC SHINES UP MUSIC'S "ONE HIT WONDERS" BEGINNING
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25. Taco, Breakfast Club, Blind Melon -- All dishes at your favorite diner? Probably not. They are, however, three acts featured in VH1 Classic's upcoming "One-Hit Wonders Weekend," beginning Saturday, February 25 at 2:00 PM/ET/11:00 AM/PT during a four-hour video block. VH1 Classic digs deep into its video vaults to unearth music video gems from bands that for one shining moment in the 70s, 80s or 90s were all the rage only to never be heard from again. From "Seasons in the Sun" to "Walking on Sunshine," VH1 Classic salutes the bands that achieved what so many aspiring performers hoped to do -- reach the pinnacle of pop music success at least once. In addition to the above acts, the "One Hit Wonder Weekend" will air videos from Don Johnson, Toni Basil, Dee-Lite, Terry Jacks, Double, Baltimora, Bobby McFerrin and Edie Brickell and New Bohemians. So what were those hit songs from the aforementioned food-themed bands? Jennifer Rush was kind-of a one hit wonder in the US. She had another single to chart near the Top 40 by way of a duet with Elton John "The Flames of Paradise".
She was a HUGELY successful pop singer throughout Europe in the 80's and early 90's. Her record company's attempts to launch her career in the US never took off though. I have three of her CDs that were released in the US in the late 80's. They are really good pop albums.

The Power of Love (written by Jennifer Rush) was not a big hit for Jennifer in the US, only peaking at #57 in 1985. It was though a mega-hit throughout Europe, even becoming one of the UK's longest running chart toppers. The song was recorded a few years later by pop singer, Laura Branigan, whose version became a hit in the US in the winter of 1987-88. The song was then, of course, covered by Celine Dion in 1993 and the single spent four weeks at #1 in the US in early 1994.
