Pet Shop Boys :: "Minimal" update + single changes

"Minimal" has been cancelled in favor of "I'm With Stupid", and will be released on May 8th.

Album tracklist is now:

1. Psychological
2. The Sodom & Gomorrah Show
3. I Made My Excuses And Left
4. Minimal
5. Numb
6. God Willing
7. Luna Park
8. I'm With Stupid
9. Casanova In Hell
10. Twentieth Century
11. Indefinite Leave To Remain
12. Integral

Lyrics to "Integral", which is an anti-ID Cards song.

Long live us
the persuaded we
integral
collectively
to the whole project
it's brand new
conceived solely
to protect you

One world
One reason
Unchanging
One season

If you've done nothing wrong
you've got nothing to fear
If you've something to hide
you shouldn't even be here
You've had your chance
now we've got the mandate
If you've changed your mind
I'm afraid it's too late
We're concerned
you're a threat
You're not integral
to the project

Everyone has
their own number
in the system that
we operate under
We're moving to
a situation
where your lives are simply
information

One world
One life
One chance
One reason
All under
one sky
unchanging
one season

If you've done nothing wrong
you've got nothing to fear
If you've something to hide
you shouldn't even be here
You've had your chance
now we've got the mandate
If you've changed your mind
I'm afraid it's too late
We're concerned
you're a threat
You're not integral
to the project

For some (completely unknown to me) reason, I have nothing of the PSB since 1995's Alternative (though I have everything up until that release). I'll have to pick this up, as well as all the albums I've missed...

same here. i downloaded some stuff, like the battleship potempkin soundtrack
and my brother burnt me some cdr's with several tunes and i did buy their
new greatest hits package "pop art" but for some reason i just fell off the
whole psb bandwagon after Alternative. That was like, the close of the old
psb and the beginning of the new. I didn't really catch on.

it's like the rift between pre and post 80's Prince.

There are more, but he just has some lines in those, i can't remember
the titles right now. But there's his line in "Home And Dry" remixes,
one of which is on the Disco3 album "we're gonna go home". Chris has
such a damn sexy voice.

May 8th....I thought the album was supposed to be out in like March! Thanks for the update but I'm pissed. "Minimal" sounded very promising. This album could be really good...or really blah!

If you were let down by "Release" and want to dance, get "Disco 3". Excellent new songs. You know who "Release" had a bonus disc with some tracks recorded around that time, including some uptempo numbers...That was really good and most of "Disco 3" blows that away!

"PopArt" was excellent. Great new songs...if that is an indication of what's coming for the album, great! I got into them the summer after that came out and started buying nearly all of their stuff. I still want their "Please/Futher Listening" set and might wait on "Nightlife" for a remastered edition as well).

hey JanFan, you should def check out "one of the crowd"
that is the best one with Chris on vocals. he does all
the verses and Neill does the chorus. it's a great and
very weird track. still sounds fresh even if it is 18!
years old now.

You know, I've been meaning to cop the Disco sets for a minute, but I always slip when I'm at the record store. I loved the Superchumbo mix of "Sexy Northerner" on 3 as well. I'm taking the plunge.

I only have "Disco 3" (I'm not that intrested in PSB remixes) for all the new songs...It's also priced like an EP even though it has 10 songs (most are breif, though).

I've got Disco 2, and I'd say Disco 2 is (almost) complete crap. Well, it's (almost) complete crap compared to everything else they released up to Alternative. (I just realized that I don't have Disco, making it the only album I don't have from their early years.) I have read in several places that Disco 3 avoids a lot of the mistakes which make Disco 2 so bad - i.e., too many lame remixes of the same songs, many of which are obviously cut short, and trying to flow it all together as a single album-long 'mega-mix' (which I've also never been a fan of).

Damn, now I have to run out and find Disc somewhere, or my first post in this thread becomes a complete lie... wall

oh yes, Disco 3 is a dozen times better than Disco 2. I remember when Disco 2
was released, I couldn't wait to get it since Disco 1 has always been one of
my fav PSB albums.

boy was that a let down. Disco 2 is a total piece of crap. there are perhaps
2 or 3 good moments on there but the rest is utter crap.

so I felt like I wouldn't get Disco 3 but then my brother gave me a cdr copy
and I reluctantly listened to it and was blown away by some of the nice tunes
on there. The new songs are very healthy sounding, just like the new songs on
the Pop/Art collection.

so that makes me excited about the new album as well.

I love "Behavoir" as well and didn't think I would but "Release" is very stripped down. I never really got into it so maybe someone who did like it or gave it more of a chance could tell you. While "Behavoir" something that was natural, "Release" seemed like making a non-dance album just to say that they could.

Yeah. I've never really heard anything great about "Disco 2" but just look at the tracklisting. They are two really different albums, with "Disco 3" being made up of half remixes, half new songs.

I think the album is still called "Fundmental" but the first single was supposed to be "Minimal"...now it will be "I'm With Stupid", which doesn't sound as promising.

It's interesting that you say that because I never really got into Release, althought I can't say it was for the reasons you just mentioned. I'm still a sucker for their first two LPs, but even I'll admit Behavio(u)r was worthy.

I'm hoping this will be the album that gets me back into the PSBs. I love all their albums up until 'Nightlife', then I suddenly dropped off with 'Release'. I've never been able to work out why but I think VinnyM27 has hit the nail on the head. nod

Everything I've read about this album indicates it's going to be a great one. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the title clarification, Vinny. "I'm with Stupid" actually would make a funny album title. And, yeah, I'm in the disappointed with "Release" camp. They do much better with that so-generic-its-unique nonorganic sound. Very excited about the new one.

i get what you are saying, and i felt that way at first, but Release grew on me after a while. I think Birthday Boy is an amazing track... and Home and Dry is one of my favorite PSB singles.

But i am very excited about the new CD.... can't wait!
