Yes appreciation

I've been digging into their later stuff, or as fans call it, the "rabin era" 80's and 90' stuff.

I love loads of these songs, in particular, this album

Awesome album. Also

I always loved "owner of a lonely heart" (with the bizarre video). All those wacky sound effects are great and seem ripe for sampling.

Fav tracks:

Owner of a loney heart
Big generator
Hold on
Love will find a way (rabin is a genius)
final eyes
lift me up
miricle of life
saving my heart
give and take
love shine

etc.....

also, my other fav yes album is this one i found. No rabin though:

Pretty much the whole thing is awesome, from 80's rock soft rock segment "rock gives courage" to the beautiful "let's pretend" and "the meeting"

This album has supurb production, with drums and guitars to the fore. Rabin is a very underated guitarist. It does sound like "big generator" but less pretentious, but tracks like "something to hold on to" "promises" and even the instrumental "the cape" are top class.

I got jon andersons "in the city of angel" too. Not like yes really, just like a less rocking toto record. Still, its got its moments.

Anyway, as over produced as their later stuff is (all their stuff is no doubt), their later stuff is fantasic in places. Particually "uinion" and "anderson, bruford, wakeman and Howe".

I guess this is a natural progression for me. A step forward is musicality, but a definate evolution as really, i always liked over-produced anything (take oasis, who are very different to yes, but are still over the top in every way)

most likely be their infamous pretentious early stuff, where songs go on for 15 minutes. I will get that stuff one day, but for now, the more commercial stuff (which is still glossy as fuck and pretentious) is enough for me.

I saw "owner of a lonely heart" on a worst no 1 list by vh1. Why? Its like a police song but more interesting.

Infact, keystudio, a recent album, is like that. I kinda like it. I just need more time to dig it.

It does indeed. Ha, and no sampling either. Iam sure cinnie can mix those sound effects into millionz of rap songs.

I swear jacko uses the opening guitar riff in "d.s"? I havn't heard the track for years, but it sounds the same?

I havn't got to "roundabout" yet. Iam dealing with shitloads of yes albums at the mo', and various side projects liek the 3 i mentioned above. I got enough.

Wakeman is obviously on anderson, brufoord, wakeman and howe. Gorgous keyboard on that one. I guess u dont have the later stuff?

Surprisenly trevor horn produced "91502".

"big generator" is "owner of a lonely heart" part 2. Its an ok song. Good groove.

Someonle please just try the "talk" album. Look, this ain't hammer, this is what some of u call "real" music. Its melodic, and so positive.

I'll admit I bought 3 of their releases from the early 70's cuz
I like 70's prog rock. (YES ALBUM, FRAGILE, CLOSE TO THE EDGE)

Songs of enjoyment:
Roundabout
Long Distance Roundaround
Starship Trooper / I've Seen All Good People
Going For The One (the album I inheired from an uncle
who was around in those days)

My neighbor next door is the one who got into various classic
rock artists/bands from the past 4 decades and Yes was a band
I wanted to explore more about.

Any recommendations of other YES albums, I want to find some of
Rick Wakeman's solo stuff too.

Love the sounds that come outta knowwhere on that song (the little vamps on keyboard or whatever). It was ahead of its time with the samples that actually were not samples if u know what i mean?
