That's what I was thinking when you mentioned the video. Haven't seen it many times, but, yeah, that scene sticks out. That video makes Boy George look like a wallflower!

Sylvester was THE man that Pete Burns wanted to be like. cool

well, sylvester was as proud of his masculine looks as he was of his feminine looks...there are photos from throughout his career where syl looks like a very handsome - and even slightly conservative - man. and then there's the gold lame caftans and the cleopatra wigs. lol

i'd venture to say that in his short life, sylvester knew himself a lot better than pete burns ever will.

Loved this song for yearrrs.

Side note: Watch Whoopi Goldberg's "Back To Broadway: 20th Anniversary Special" on HBO or DVD. You'll see that she infuses this tune in her stage production. thumbs up!

also, check out sandra bernhard's movie, "without you i'm nothing" - she performs "mighty real" AND "do ya wanna funk"...sandra's a huge sylvester fan.

Ah, wouldn't she be though? biggrin

For real though, this song just hits my gay sentimentality centers. (didn't know the Mistress had those, did you?)

I adore it and for some reason every time I hear it I'm so moved. Something about an out gay man in the 70s singing his heart out "you make me feel real." Finding comfort in the arms of a man he loves (or lusts, whatever, not important smile) and knowing that no matter what the world says about him, "I feel real when you touch me/I feel real when you kiss me."

Some of y'all will make fun of me and say I'm taking a fun disco track too deep, but dammit, this song makes me feel mighty real! touched

I just bought a 2 CD set called "Greatest Hits" and "Rock The Box" is included on there. It also has a great remix of "Do Ya Wanna Funk".

I have a few of his vinyl albums and recently have bought a few CD imports in the record store. They were expensive as hell, like $25 each but they do have 12 Inch versions at the end of the album. Once I bought them, I never saw them in the store again so if you see something of Sylvester's, buy it immediately.

Yeah, I think I saw that and "Rock the Box" was a remix and from what I heard, an inferior one (the remix included on the CD RTB isn't very good). Maybe I'll check it out, though. And why a remix of "Do You Wanna Funk"? I'm not that familar with the original but apparently it's one of his most highly noted songs.

Both "Rock The Box" and "Do You Wanna Funk" are remixes on the 2 CD set "Greatest Hits". Both of them sound like they were remixed in the 1990s. "Do Ya Wanna Funk" is the original music but cut in different places to make it a little extended with certain beats, I guess they are called "reverbed?" for example Prince's 12 Inch of "Pop Life" that goes "Pop life...pop...pa..pa...pop.

Yeah...There are quite a few album covers with Sylvester dressed as a man ("Too Hot To Sleep" comes to mind).

I would say that you must but fair warning, it's beyond dated by the fact that a lot of the songs sound like they come from the seventies disco era but the album was from the eighties. "Rock The Box" and "I Don't Wanna Think About It" are very eighties dance, though and I love them..and the backup vocalists doing their solo thing on "Think"...wow! "Shadow Of A Heart" is a beautiful ballad. "Sex" and "How Do You Like Your Love" try to be seductative but are a boring. "Lovin Is Really My Game" is disco fun. The remixes aren't notable and in the case of "Rock The Box", they ruin it by taking out a lot of the great original elements (including the synthesized moans) and make it more busy than before. Still, I like!

Just kidding! lol

I'm more interested in the computer disco faire on the record. Right now I am totally into computer disco, future-retro and electronic-inspired dance music. I will always love dance and electronic music, but I'm really into late 70s/early 80s computerdance at the mo'.

Not 100% sure what comnputer disco is but if I had to guess, I would think the title track fits under that genre. I figured the whole album would have that kind of sound...It doesn't but a great title track! While "I Don't..." is eighties sounding, it's more Patti Labelle than Pet Shop Boys. Funky R&B.

Think: Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" (the track that started it all), "Rumour Has It" or almost anything off of "Once Upon A Time..." Spark's "Beat The Clock" or "Tryouts For The Human Race". Munich Machine, The Sylvers, Speed Limit, etc. Basically think of Giorgio Moroder's dancier productions circa 1977-79.
